Betting On Chicago White Sox Online

Since clinching the AL Central Division title in 2008, the Chicago White Sox have not been particularly successful in the AL Central Division, with several of the seasons ending in the dead last spot of the division. Even some of the better seasons, like 2012, ended with the team narrowly missing the playoffs. Despite the team’s recent struggles, throughout its 100+ year history, the White Sox have witnessed many talented players and stellar performances and it is every fan’s hope that Chicago can someday return to its times of glory. Founded in 1901, the White Sox are one of two MLB teams based in Chicago and one of the charter teams in the AL. Chicago established itself as a powerhouse team in the MLB as early as 1906, when it beat its cross-town rivals, the Cubs, to capture the first World Series title. 11 years later in 1917, star players Eddie Cicotte and Joe “Shoeless” Jackson helped the team win the another World Series. However, it wouldn’t be long before these two stars gained notoriety for the Black Sox Scandal in 1919, where they and six others fixed the World Series in exchange for money from gamblers, consequently receiving a lifetime ban from the MLB.

After the Black Sox Scandal, the team did not earn another AL pennant until four decades later in 1959. Thanks to star players like Nellie Fox, Luis Aparicio, Billy Pearce, and Sherm Lollar, the White Sox made tremendous success throughout the 1950s, which culminated in the World Series appearance, where Chicago lost to the LA Dodgers. Following the high point in the 50s, the White Sox entered into a decline for the next two decades.

The team managed to recover from its slump by the 1980s and remained successful throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Chicago’s records in runs, doubles, and home runs are currently held by Frank Thomas, who made his stint with the White Sox from 1990 to 2005. The team’s third World Series title then came in 2005 with the help of stars like Paul Konerko, Mark Buehrle, and A. J. Pierzynski.

Chicago White Sox Online Betting Tips

While the recent White Sox seasons have not been particularly impressive, the team has the necessary talent to produce a successful season.

On the mound, Chris Sale has been exceptional since his debut in 2010. At the plate the team has Jose Abreu, who was the Silver Slugger in 2014, the same year he joined the team. With 36 home runs and a .581 slugging percentage that year, Abreu was essential in providing offensive firepower for Chicago.

The same year that Abreu won the Silver Slugger Award, teammate Adam Eaton also was the AL’s leader in triples. The club has a legitimate chance to make a playoff appearance if they can capitalize on the talent at their disposal.

Strikeouts for Sale

If the White Sox ever had anything on sale for other MLB teams, it would be the strikeouts that Chris throws from the mound. In 2015, Chris Sale, nicknamed “The Condor”, was the AL leader for strikeouts with 274, setting a franchise record for the most K’s in a single season.

The previous record was held by Hall of Famer Ed Walsh, who threw 269 K’s in 1908. That year, Sale also tied Pedro Martinez’s record of eight consecutive games with 10 or more strikeouts.

Since joining the White Sox in 2010, Sale’s performance as a pitcher has earned him four appearances in the All-Star game from 2012-2015.
