As a team that clinched six division titles from 2002 to 2010, the beginning of the new decade has been rather disappointing for the Minnesota Twins. During the four years between 2011 and 2014, the Twins repeatedly found themselves in the bottom spot of AL Central. In 2015, the team managed to climb out of its trough, but still didn’t perform well enough to earn a playoff spot. Like many other teams in the AL Central Divison, the Twins have a history dating back to the turn of the twentieth century.
The team, founded in 1901 as the Washington Senators, used to be one of the two MLB franchises operating in the American capital. After a rather humble beginning in its first two decades, the Senators achieved their first milestone in 1924 and 1925 with two World Series appearances, emerging victorious in the former season against the New York Giants (not to be confused with the current NFL franchise). Star pitcher Walter Johnson was part of the team’s success. Washington played in its third World Series in 1933, where they faced New York for the second time, only to fall to the avenging Giants.
In 1960, after six decades in the capital, the Senators relocated to their current home in St. Paul-Minneapolis, also known as the Twin Cities. The team’s new name derived directly from the name of its new hometown. A few years after settling in the Midwest, the Twins saw future MLB legends Rod Carew, Tony Oliva, and Harmon Killebrew bolstering the team’s performance. However, it wouldn’t be until 1987 and 1991 that Minnesota captured its second and third World Series titles, when all-time greats like Bert Blyleven, Kent Hrbek, and Kirby Puckett made their marks.
By the turn of the twenty-first century, Minnesota remained a dominant force in AL Central thanks to players like Justin Morneau, Joe Nathan, and Joe Mauer.

Betting Tips on the Minnesota Twins
How did the Twins, with 2011 to 2014 being a low point, manage to turn their luck around in 2015?
As a team that consistently placed in the bottom of the league in ERAs, Minnesota’s pitching performance increased substantially in 2015.
Miguel Sano, who joined the team in 2015 at age 22, also has the potential to make a splash in the MLB. Having come out of the 2015 season as third on balloting for Rookie of the Year, Sano, if he can continue in a similar vein, might become the next Tony Oliva.
Glen Perkins: The Twins’ Savior
Hometown pitcher Glen Perkins embodies Minnesota through and through. Born and raised in the state, Perkins joined the Twins in 2006 to make his MLB debut. Minnesota’s pitching hasn’t been great in recent years, but the team, thanks in large part to Perkins, has come a long way. In the 2013 season, Perkins was credited with 36 saves in the 61 games in which he pitched. Perkins is also a three-time All-Star and was credited for the save during the 2014 All-Star Game.
