Betting On National League West Online

Originally formed in 1969, the National League West Division was first won by a team that now plays in the NL East, the Atlanta Braves, and in the 1970s was dominated by a current NL Central team, the Cincinnati Reds. Lately, the division has belonged to the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, who have combined to capture eight of the last nine NL West titles. The NL West has only sent three teams to the World Series since 1999 but they all won – the Giants in 2010 and 2012 and the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001.

National League West Sports Betting Odds

Where should the smart money go when it comes to the NL West? Lately, it’s all been on the Los Angeles Dodgers. [+]

The Dodgers have won every NL West title since 2013, have won at least 90 games every season and show no signs of going away.

The San Francisco Giants own an interesting streak where they won the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014. The Giants were a playoff team again in 2016 but fell to the eventual World Series champion Chicago Cubs in the NLDS.

What Are The Current National League West Standings

While the NL West has proven to be a two-team race in recent years, it’s also proven to be a division that often grabs one of the two NL Wild Card playoff spots. [+]

Eight times, the NL West has sent a Wild Card team to the postseason. In 2014, the San Francisco Giants won the World Series as a Wild Card entry. In 2009, two NL West teams, the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres, played a sudden-death game to determine which would be the NL Wild Card team, a game the Rockies won.

Dodgers Just Can’t Get Over The Hump

While the Los Angeles Dodgers have owned the NL West with four titles since 2013 and a half dozen since 2008, getting deep into the playoffs has proven to be a much different matter.

Since defeating the Oakland Athletics in the 1988 World Series, the Dodgers have made 10 playoff appearances but they’ve yet to make a return trip to the Fall Classic. They’ve lost four times in the NLCS, including in 2016 to the eventual World Series champion Chicago Cubs.

Rockies Could Prove a Sleeper Pick

Beyond the obvious and traditional showdown between the Dodgers and Giants, it wouldn’t be out of the question for the Colorado Rockies to sneak into the pennant race in the NL West and made some noise.

The Rockies have one a baseball’s deepest everyday lineups and if they can get any sort of consistent pitching, are a legitimate playoff threat.
