Sunderland Association Football Club, or simply Sunderland, are an English soccer team who ply their trade in the world famous Premier League from their home known as the Stadium of Light. Although Sunderland has won the top tier of English soccer on six occasions, they have not managed to do so since the 1935-36 season. Sunderland also has two FA Cups to its name, the last of these coming in 1973 when they became the first Second Division team to lift the cup in 42 years when the defeated Leeds United at Wembley Stadium.
The club has spent the past nine seasons in the Premier League, but have never finished above 10th place, that happening in the 2010-11 season. Sunderland seem to always have an annual battle against relegation, flirting with the drop before hitting form in the final few games of the season to preserve their top flight status.
The upcoming 2016-17 season looks like it could follow a similar story because bookmakers price “The Black Cats” as sixth favorites to go down, behind the three newly promoted teams, West Brom and Watford.
Sunderland’s plight is not helped by the Football Association considering appointing Sunderland’s manager Sam Allardyce as the national team’s coach, something that has, to date, prevented Sunderland from adding new players to their squad.
Do you think Sunderland will be fighting relegation this season, or can they build on their great form from the end of the 2015-16 campaign and climb up the table?

Sunderland Online Betting Tips
With odds of +275 on Sunderland being relegated from the Premier League in 2016-17, the Black Cats are sixth favorites to drop down a division, but they are only slightly longer than the +225 offered on a Watford relegation.
Sunderland ended last season unbeaten in their last six games, winning three and drawing three, including a 3-2 win over Chelsea and a 3-0 win over a hapless Everton side. Bookie price a top half finish at +300 which does seem a tad optimistic at best.
The team scored 48 goals last term, ranking them 11th for attacking. Jermaine Defoe scored 15 of those goals, and you can find odds of +5000 on Defoe being the Premier League’s top scorer in 2016-17 as a result.
Although neither Sunderland’s home or away form was particularly great over the course of the season, they ranked first in the Premier League for number of goals when they were away.
A total of 67 goals were scored in Sunderland’s away games, with 12 games from 19 finishing with over 2.5 goals, thanks to them having the worst defense on the road, but the seventh best attack.
Conversely, at home, Sunderland had the sixth best defense, which only conceded 20 goals, but only managed five shutouts all season. Factor this into your betting, particularly if you are betting on goals markets.
Personally, I would stay clear of season long bets on Sunderland this term because the odds are not enticing enough either way. Instead, I’d be betting on individual games, and looking at getting on the over 2.5 goals when Sunderland take on some of the top six sides away from home.
