West Bromwich Albion, or West Brom as the majority of soccer fans call them, are an English Premier League team playing out of The Hawthorns, a stadium it has called home since 1900. West Brom are one of the founding members of the Football League, and have spent the vast majority of their time in the top tier of English soccer, although they have only once been the champions of England, that occurring in the 1919-20 season. The club spent between 1949 and 1973 in the top flight, but 1986-2002 outside of the top division.
The 2016-17 season is West Brom’s 11th season in the top division since 2002. During the 2015-16 season, West Brom found themselves in a relegation dogfight for large parts of the season, eventually finishing in 14th place (from 20) with 43 points, six points clear of the relegation zone.
Many believe that West Brom will struggle again this season, not least because the only signing they have made thus far is the £5.5 million acquisition of midfielder Matt Phillips from QPR, while releasing three players, including Victor Anichebe who they bought for £5 million during the 2013-14 season.
West Brom need to get this latest campaign off to a good start and put the dismal end of season run behind them; they are currently without a win in their last nine games.
Manager Tony Pullis has “The Baggies” organized at the back, but it is going forward that the team struggles, something that will worsen if the proposed £20 million sale of Saido Berahino goes through.
Will it be a long season of woe for West Brom, or can Pullis inspire his team and get them climbing up the table?

A dire end to the 2015-16 season coupled with a lack of investment, and the possible sale of their star asset, sees Wet Brom priced at +175 to be relegated from the Premier League with only the three newly promoted sides having shorter odds.
Personally, and because I have a friend who is a loyal West Brom fan, I think they could well go down this season, although finishing bottom at +700 seems unlikely.
If you want to bet on West Brom being relegated, I would risk waiting for the first six or seven games to finish because West Brom have a relatively easy ride until then, so their odds should lengthen if they accrue more than a handful of points.
We have already mentioned that West Brom are nine games without a win despite having the seventh best defense last year after conceding only 48 goals and keeping 11 clean sheets.
However, West Brom has the 18th worst attack, scoring only 34 times, and failing to score in 14 of their 38 games.
Needless to say, games involving West Brom produced the least amount of goals at 82, with the under 2.5 goals market being won 24 from 38 games.
