Miami Dolphins Odds To Win The Super Bowl 2018

Miami Dolphins Odds To Win The Super Bowl 2018
The Jay Cutler experience is in full motion in Miami as the Dolphins look to make the playoffs for a second straight season. But can the club go all the way and win a Super Bowl in 2018? We break down Miami’s schedule and give you our prediction for the next coming season.

Miami Dolphins Super Bowl Odds

The Miami Dolphins turned a few heads by making the playoffs in 2016. But an off-season injury to starting quarterback Ryann Tannehill put a damper on the club’s chances to once again make a post-season surge in the upcoming NFL regular season, which gets underway next month. In an effort for a quick fix, the Dolphins went out and signed Jay Cutler, who was ready to call it a career after spending the last 8 seasons as the Chicago Bears’ starting QB.

With a strong running game, can Cutler fill the void Tannehill leaves behind as the Dolphins look to return to the playoffs and possibly make an unexpected run for a Super Bowl crown?

If you’re looking for an early season long shot, the Dolphins may be your team as Bovada is pegging Miami at +7500 to win the championship in 2018. Let’s break down Miami’s upcoming season and their chances of winning its first Super Bowl since 1973.

Questions on Offense

Jay Cutler is out to prove he can still be considered a No. 1 quarterback in the NFL. Things ended on a sour note in Chicago for Cutler, whose injury-shortened season coupled with the Bears’ struggling team forced him to walk away from the game. That’s until the Dolphins showed interest in the Pro Bowler, who has thrown for 3,000 or more yards six times during his career. Cutler had his best season in 2015 throwing for 3,659 yards and 28 touchdown passes. Much like his situation in Chicago, Cutler will face tough competition in the AFC East, specifically against the defending champion New England Patriots.

Miami’s rushing game is what kept them in playoff contention last season and it will be the key to a potential Super Bowl run in 2018. The Dolphins collected 1,824 rushing yards in 2016, which ranked ninth overall in the league. That was thanks in part to running back Jay Ajayi finishing fourth overall in rushing yards (1,272) behind only the Ezekiel Elliott, Jordan Howard and DeMarco Murray. Miami will need Ajayi to stay healthy and be the club’s No. 1 running option to stand any chance of making it to the playoffs and making a Super Bowl run. In just his second NFL season, Ajayi had a breakthrough sophomore campaign, racking up more than 1,200 yards and rushing for eight touchdowns. But the aggressive runner has had a history of injuries, including a concussion setback which seems to be resolved to start the 2017 season.

The Dolphins were a strong team at home, finishing with an impressive 6-2 record last season. They’ll have to improve on their 4-4 road record to be considered Super Bowl contenders.

Defensive Woes

The Dolphins were one of the worst defensive teams in the National Football League in 2016, finishing 29th overall. Miami gave up 6,122 total yards against — only the Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers allowed more.

Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was supposed to turn Miami’s defense around when he signed a mega contract with the Dolphins. After a sluggish start to his time in Miami, Suh turned things around and recorded 72 tackles in 2016 — third most among interior linemen.

Miami’s other stud on defense is Cameron Wake — an all-star defensive end who led the team with 11.5 sacks last season. Between Suh and Wake, the Dolphins will be better defensively than 29th overall.

Miami Dolphins 2017-18 Outlook

Anytime you can make it to the playoffs, there’s always a chance to reach the Super Bowl. The first step for the Dolphins will be getting to the post-season.

Breaking down Miami’s schedule for 2017, making the playoffs will be a difficult task as the club opens the season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 10. The Dolphins’ next four games are flips of a coin as they’ll face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2, New York Jets in Week 3 and New Orleans Saints in Week 4.

Things get very difficult for the Dolphins in the second half of the season when they take on the Atlanta Falcons, Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos and New England Patriots twice.

The key for Miami will be winning more than half of its opening eight games. Winning a Super Bowl with a struggling quarterback may be a little much to ask, so be cautious when betting on the Dolphins to win it all. While it’s likely Miami will reach the playoffs again, you have better chance of winning the lottery than Miami capturing the Super Bowl in 2018.
