Ireland vs France Betting Lines Analysis

Euro 2016 Knockout Stage Game Prediction

By Matt Pitt

Paul Pogba

France go into their round of 16 clash with Republic of Ireland on a run of form that has seen them win 11 of their last 13 matches, which kind of justifies their -227 odds to win.

Although they were not entirely convincing in the group stages, France got the job done with two wins and a draw, and should have more than enough talent in their starting XI to send Republic of Ireland home.

Olivier Giroud should return for the French and he is +350 to open the scoring and +150 to score at any time. Look out for Paul Pogba at +550 to score first, the Juventus man has been disappointing at best and need to turn on the style in this game.

It all looked over for Republic of Ireland when they imploded against Belgium and were brushed aside by three goals to nil. However, a heroic 1-0 win over a weakened Italy side saw them progress to the knockout stages.

Much is being made of this match due to the World Cup qualifying playoff match between the sides in 2009 where Thierry Henry’s handball helped the French eliminate Ireland, but the Irish boys need to put that out of their mind if they stand any chance of progressing.

Bookmakers price Ireland at +1000 to win this game in 90 minutes, and +400 to win using extra time and penalties, but I simply cannot look past a French victory within 90-minutes, and you should not either.

My bet for this game is the half time/full time market where I am opting for Draw/France at +260. I believe the Irish can hold on for at least 45 minutes, but the French flair will eventually become too much for them to handle.

Sorry Ireland fans.
