Premier League Week 9 Betting Advice

Make Some Money On The Premier League

By Matt Pitt

Chelsea (+110) vs. Manchester United (+245)

Diego Costa

Chelsea take on Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in what is the fixture of the weekend, not least because it marks the return of former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Antonio Conte is in charge of the Blues these days and has so far guided them to fifth place in the table. Under Conte, Chelsea look brilliant, or awful with no in between; the latter being shown when they were rolled over 3-0 away to Liverpool.

Chelsea go into this game on the back of a 3-0 win over reigning champions Leicester City, while Manchester United were held to a very boring 0-0 draw away to Liverpool.

The outcome of this game hangs on which Chelsea team turns up. If Conte gets his boys playing how they can, Chelsea should live up to their tag of pre-match favorites, but if not Manchester United have the players to cause Chelsea all sorts of problems.

A draw is priced at +245 with a 1-1 draw available at +500, the bets I’ll be looking at for this particular game.

Pick: 1-1 draw at +500

West Ham United (-140) vs. Sunderland (+370)

Dimitri Payet

West Ham United, tipped by many to be this season’s surprise package, have struggled in the early stages of the season. Slaven Bilic’s men appear to have forgotten how to defend and have already leaked 17 goals in the league this season, including conceding four goals at home to Watford and away to West Bromwich Albion in back-to-back games.

The Hammers kept a clean sheet in their last game, a 1-0 away win at Crystal Palace, which was only their second victory of the campaign. This week they entertain Sunderland, who look like one of the worst teams to have ever graced the Premier League.

Sunderland are the only team in the Premier League still looking for their first win and it will not come from this game. Sunderland’s defense is almost as bad as West Ham’s having shipped 15 goals so far, so expect to see the nets bulging regularly.

Over 2.5 goals is currently -120 with over 3.5 goals +205. I’ll probably be opting for the former because I don’t see Sunderland troubling the shaky West Ham defense too often, while West Ham are likely to go a couple of goals up before taking their foot off the gas.

I even think that the straight West Ham to win at -140 represents value, simply because Sunderland looked doomed for relegation, even after only eight games played.

Pick: West Ham United to win at -140

Manchester City (-195) vs. Southampton (+500)

Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City may be top of the Premier League table right now, but they have only managed to take one point from their past two games and are without a win in their last three games in all competitions.

City were held 1-1 by Everton last weekend, although they missed a brace of penalties so should really have run out 3-1 winners. Everton’s manager, Ronald Koeman, stated City were far the better team but that Lady Luck was on his side.

Southampton are in buoyant mood after a 3-1 win over Burnley pushed them up to eighth in the table, taking their goals scored to 10 for the season. The Saints have one of the best defensive records in the league this season. They’ll need to be at their brilliant best to keep the score down against free-scoring City.

Manchester City face Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League midweek and that fixture may take a lot out of Pep Guardiola’s men. That said, Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero, who both missed penalties against Everton, will be going all out to make amends for their poor showing the last time they played.

My prediction for this game is that Southampton will be resolute for as long as possible, but the might of City’s attack will prove too strong for them in the end.

Pick: Manchester City to win 2-0 at +650
