NFL 2012 College Draft – Colts Looking To Get Lucky
With The First Overall Pick The Indianapolis Colts Select….
What has to be the worst kept secret – in the history of secrets, the Indianapolis Colts have announced that they will in fact select Stanford Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck with the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL College Draft. Colts owner Jim Irsay and his management team made that decision months ago as they formulated the best plan of attack to ship QB Peyton Manning out of Indianapolis – and on to Denver.
While the parting of the ways between the face of the franchise and the man who paid him boatloads of cash looked amicable, we find it difficult to believe that isn’t any hard feelings between the two sides. Business is business though. After a disastrous 2011 NFL season, the Colts will attempt to rebuild – much like the Detroit Lions did when they took Matthew Stafford as the first pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.
With The Second Overall Pick The Washington Redskins Select….
Although they haven’t formally announced their pick, the Washington Redskins traded up to get the second overall selection and they are also prepared to begin their rebuilding process from the QB out. Baylor Bears QB Robert Griffin III will be selected as the quarterback of choice to lead the Redskins revival in DC.
This situation is similar to the Eli Manning/Phillip Rivers scenario that occurred during the 2004 NFL Draft, except that Luck and RGIII are actually expected to sign with the clubs that draft them. A lot of what happens in New York, from April 26 through April 28, will have a major impact on how the 2012 NFL betting season will shape up.
