Betting On Tampa Bay Lightning Online

When Steve Yzerman went to Tampa Bay to run the Lightning as general manager, he brought along a philosophy ingrained during two decades with the Detroit Red Wings – patient development of the team’s propsects, allowing them to grow together and ripen on the vine while playing in the minor leagues. It’s a formula that’s allowed the Red Wings to be an NHL power for over two decades and it’s also working well for the Lightning. Tampa Bay’s AHL farm club played for the Calder Cup title two years in succession. [+]

Much of that lineup was with the Lightning in 2014-15 when they captured the NHL’s Eastern Conference title and played for the Stanley Cup.

Tampa Bay Lightning Next Regular Season Game

The Lightning have assembled a team built for a long run of success by taking a patient approach and allowing their talent to mature before putting them into more responsible scenarios. [+]

By going on two long playoff runs together in the AHL, much of Tampa Bay’s core was already playoff hardened before the Lightning made their run to the 2015 Stanley Cup final.

In addition, they’ve also allowed the team to develop under coach Jon Cooper and then brought Cooper up to join them in the big time as they graduated to play in the show. It’s a formula that’s working in Tampa Bay and you can be sure the rest of the NHL has taken notice.

Tampa Bay Lightning Online Betting Tips

One thing we’ve learned about the Tampa Bay Lightning over the years is their ability to produce goals ranks among the best in the National Hockey League.

Even with former 50-goals man Steven Stamkos out of the lineup, the Bolts have consistently been a club that’s averaged well over 2.70 goals per game, ranking alongside the top teams in the league in that department during the 2017 season.

A key piece to the Lightning’s potent offense has been Nikita Kucherov, who earned his second straight 30-goal season. Kucherov led the team in shots on goals in 2017 and top among the top players on the Bolts in shot percentage, making the Russian forward a threat every time on the ice.

As far as advanced stats go, this is an area of strength for the Lightning, who are typically among the league leaders in Corsi — a stat that measures shot differential at even-strength play. The Bolts had a Corsi rating of just over 52 percent during the 2016-17 campaign, sitting in the top five in the NHL in that department.

Tampa Bay Lightning History

The Bolts broke into the league as an expansion team in 1992, missing the playoffs in nine of the franchise’s first 10 seasons in the NHL.

The tides turned in 2004 when head coach John Tortorella guided the Lightning to the franchise’s first ever Stanley Cup championship.

Tampa Bay defeated the Calgary Flames in a thrilling best-of-seven series that went the distance. That season, Martin St. Louis led the Bolts with 38 goals 94 points. Add Brad Richards and Vincent Lecavalier into the mix, and the Lightning were a force to be reckoned with.

St. Louis is the franchise’s all-time leader in scoring with 953 points, while Lecavalier still holds the record for most goals with 383, however Stamkos is closing in on that mark.
