Betting On Pittsburgh Penguins Online

The Pittsburgh Penguins returned to Stanley Cup supremacy in 2016, claiming the franchise’s fourth all-time title in an unforgettable playoff run. Sidney Crosby was the catalyst behind the Penguins’ march to the Cup final, where the club defeated the San Jose Sharks in six games. Fast-forward to the 2017 season and the Penguins have shown no signs of slowing down. No NHL team has won back-to-back Stanley Cups since the Detroit Red Wings accomplished the feat in 1997 and again in 1998. [+]

However if there is a single NHL club that can break that spell, it’s the Penguins — who in 1991 and 1992 won consecutive titles over their own with Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr leading the charge.

With Crosby and Malkin the dynamic duo in Pittsburgh, the Penguins have set them up as legitimate Cup contenders for many years to come.

The additions of Phil Kessel on the wing and Justin Schultz on the blue-line have only strengthened Pittsburgh’s chances of becoming a Stanley Cup dynasty.

Are the Pens enjoying one of their notorious hot streaks and is Sydney Crosby in fine scoring form?

Answer these questions and you’re well on your way to formulating a sound betting strategy.

Pittsburgh Penguins Online Betting Tips

There aren’t many NHL teams that can score at will the way the Penguins can. Having three weapons like Crosby, Malkin and Kessel certainly doesn’t hurt.

While many expected Crosby to take a backseat to Edmonton Oilers’ star Connor McDavid in the NHL scoring race, the two-time Hart Trophy winner proved his critics wrong during the 2016-17 season. Crosby recorded his second 40-plus goal season and his first since netting 51 in 2009.

The performance from Pittsburgh’s Big Three has certainly translated to overall scoring stats as the Penguins led the NHL in goals for during the 2016-17 — averaging 3.46 tallies per game. The Minnesota Wild and Washington Capitals were the closest to the Pens in that department.

When it comes to advanced stats, the Penguins have so much talent up and down their lineup, even a mediocre Corsi Rating of 50.5 goes unnoticed. That certainly hasn’t affected Pittsburgh’s shot percentage as the Pens averaged a league leading 34.1 shots per game. However, the club allowed more than 32 per game, which put constant pressure on Penguin goaltenders Matt Murray and Marc-Andre Fleury.

If you’re putting money on the Penguins, get used to take the over on many nights, especially against other Metropolitan opponents, who boast similar potent offensive units.

As already indicated, the Pens score a lot of goals. Utlize the over to your advantage. If the Pens are playing a poor defensive team, you’re almost guaranteed to see a lot of goals. They score in bunches and cannot be stopped when clicking on all cylinders. Be careful, though, as the Pens have been improving in their own zone and have a pretty good defensive record to prove it.

This current Pens team is exceptional both on home ice and against divisional foes. Feel confident about betting on the Pens in both situations as it’s rare to see them defeated in Pittsburgh. Also, a futures bet is worth a go, especially at the start of the campaign.

Or, you can wait until the Pens go through a slump and jump on the higher futures odds. They’re bound to have at least one sub-par spell but this team always rebounds well. They have too much skill, experience and hockey acumen to play poorly for an entire campaign.

Bet against the Pens if they’re on the tail end of a long road trip. Tired legs effect every team and the Pens are no exception. These types of opportunities don’t pop up frequently so jump on the chance. It’s the only time we feel you can bet against this dyanmic team with a semblanc of confidence.
