Betting On Washington Capitals Online

Forever teetering on the brink of brilliance, the Washington Capitals play an appealing style of regular season hockey that never quite comes off during the playoffs. Known for their prolific offense, the Caps have always preferred to play a run-and-gun style, hopefully outscoring their opponents in the process. Defense, prior to the 2015-16 season, didn’t seem to be a priority in the nation’s capital. Oh, how that has changed. We think they’ve finally figured out the recipe for success in Washington, which is a sound defense complimented by a proficient attack. [+]

The Caps are one of only three teams that allowed less than 200 goals during the 2015-16 season. They allowed 193 to be precise, only one goal more than Anaheim’s league best of 193. No wonder they are the Stanley Cup favorites. If Washington can remain this good in defense, they will finally help Alexander Ovechkin win his first Stanley Cup.

Led by the Great #8, Alexander Ovechkin scored 50 goals for the seventh time during the 2015-16 season by notching a hat trick against the St. Louis Blues in one of the last games of the season.

Surprisingly, though, Ovechkin didn’t lead the team in points during the 2015-16 season. Those honors go to Evgeny Kuznetsov, who tallied 77 points. A very balanced attack, the Caps are now the real deal. They don’t have any weak spots on the team and can be considered cup contenders until Ovechkin hangs up his skates. That is, of course, as long as they keep this current unit together and unified.

Braden Holtby is a calming presence in goal and won a career-high 48 games during the current campaign. Most of the pundits predict a Caps Stanley Cup triumph and we tend to agree with them.

Do the Caps play on the road or at home? Are they playing an inferior team that cannot match the Caps anywhere on the ice? Remember, though, that your return on such games are diminshed. Pick the games where the Caps are in tough but will most likely still nudge the opposition aside.

Washington Capitals Online Betting Tips

Known for their dominance in the regular season, the Capitals have struggled in the past to carry that success over to the playoffs.

That may all soon change as the current Capitals’ roster features top to bottom. Alex Ovechkin has been the face of the franchise since being drafted by the club in 2004. While the six-time Rocket Richard Trophy recipient has slowed down offensively somewhat, Ovechkin is still a dangerous player every time he steps on the ice.

In an ultra-competitive Metropolitan Division, the Capitals have been able to remain one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference on a consistent basis.

There’s been less pressure on the Great 8 to carry the offensive load, as the team drafted its next budding star Evgeny Kuznetsov, who has become a consistent 20-goal scorer for the Capitals.

Hockey purists will say championships are built from the net out. If that is the case, the Capitals are in great hands with goaltender Braden Holtby between the pipes. The Vezina Trophy winner had a remarkable 2016 season, leading all goalies with 48 victories and finished sixth in goals against average.

Possession rules in today’s NHL and the Capitals have been one of the better teams in Corsi over the past few seasons. The Caps played to a 51.45 Corsi rating — an enhanced stat that measures shot differential at even-strength play.

As expected, Ovechkin was among the NHL leaders in shots on goal, many of which came on the man advantage. Ovechkin was also among the league leaders in power-play goals during the 2016-17 campaign.

That has translated to a high-rate of goals per game for the Capitals, who averaged 3.20 tallies. In year’s past the Capitals were criticized for being too offensive while lacking talent on the back end. Washington turned that around during the 2016-17 season by finishing first in goals against, surrendering a league-leading 2.17 per game.

Do the Capitals have what it takes to finally get over the hump?

Had you put your money on Washington to win it all at the start of the 2016-17 season, sportsbook offered +475 odds on the Caps to capture the franchise’s first Stanley Cup.

With a potent offense and a good mix on the blue-line that features Matt Niskanen, John Carlson and Dmitry Orlov, the Capitals have put themselves in great position to legitimately contend for the Stanley Cup for years to come.
