Betting On Belgium Online

Belgium returns to European Championship action in 2016 after missing the previous three editions, and there are many soccer pundits and fans around the globe who believe that this Belgian side could cause a few upsets in France this summer. The Belgians finished in third place at Euro 1972, were runners-up in 1980, but then failed to progress from their group in both 1984 and 2000, the latter being the last time the all red strip of Belgium was seen at the European Championships finals. With so many of Belgium’s Euro 2016 squad plying their trade in Europe’s top leagues, the majority of the players are well-known to soccer enthusiasts. The team has a solid spine throughout it with Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois in goal, the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, and Thomas Vermaelen in defence, Mousa Dembele, Kevin De Beuyne and Eden Hazard pulling the strings in midfield, and a strike force of Romelu Lukaku and Christian Benteke.

Pre-tournament odds of +1100 seem very long for a team with such potential, but these odds should shorten significantly should Belgium progress from their difficult group.

Belgium kick off their Euro 2016 campaign with a difficult tie in Lyon on June 13 against Italy. The Italians are notorious slow starters in tournament soccer, which could work in Belgium’s favour.

After Italy is a match against Republic of Ireland in Bordeaux on June 18, with Sweden laying in wait on June 22 in Nice.

Belgium Betting Tips

Belgium are the kind of team that could either take Euro 2016 by storm, or be labeled as one of the biggest disappointments.

The Belgians are +1100 to win Euro 2016 before a ball’s been kicked, and are +120 (favorites) to top Group E, a bet that looks solid, especially if they can beat Italy in their opening fixture.

Another potential value bet could be for Romelu Lukaku being the top goalscorer at odds of +2200. Everton’s star man scored 25 goals in 46 games for the Toffees this season, and has 12 goals in 43 games for Belgium. If, and it is a big if, Belgium go deep at Euro 2016, it will likely be Lukaku’s goals that have got them there.

Much of Belgium success depends on how Eden Hazard performs. The Chelsea man has not had the best of seasons in 2015/16, but showed glimpses of his immense talent as the season drew to a close. Check out this video showcasing Hazard’s brilliance.
