McGregor vs. Mayweather Prediction

Mayweather vs. McGregor: Where your money should go

Floyd Mayweather took to Instagram recently to show off his lightning-quick hands. The five-division world champion posted a video to the social media sharing site training in preparation for his Aug. 26 super fight against MMA star Conor McGregor. You can check his video out on Instagram, @mayweatherproductions.

“I know I’m not the same fighter I was 20 years ago, I’m not the same fighter I was 10 years ago,” Mayweather wrote in the post, which showed the 40-year-old training on a punching bag. “As a matter of fact, I’m not the same fighter I was 5 years ago, I’m just an old legend putting in work in 16 oz gloves.”

Not to be outdone, McGregor responded with a video of his own, proving to all his naysayers that the Irishman can in fact box. The UFC’s lightweight champion is nowhere close to matching Mayweather’s speed, but as his Instagram video shows, McGregor can hit with the best of them.

All the hype and smack talking between the two well-respected fighters will finally be settled in the ring when Mayweather puts his perfect 49-0 record on the line against McGregor on Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

As expected, Mayweather enters the highly anticipated match as an overwhelming -650 favorite, according to oddsmakers. McGregor opened as the heavy underdog, however with money pouring in on the Irishman, the linesd have moved slightly. The UFC star, known for his stand-up striking style, is now pegged at +425 to take the bout and hand Mayweather his first career loss.

McGregor is capable of ending it with a single punch, but the issue will be trying to connect with that shot. Mayweather’s defense is impeccable. So much so even Manny Pacquaio — widely considered to be Mayweather’s best challenger — struggled to land many big shots during their 2015 encounter.

Mayweather has scored 26 knockouts during an illustrious career, but keep in mind his last seven victories have come by decision. That’s the most likely scenario here and one that is offering enticing +220 odds. Mayweather will toy with McGregor and dissect the UFC brawler with jabs and hooks to win the majority of the rounds. However, a knockout victory in favor of Mayweather would pay -155 on a moneyline wager.

While Mayweather is an overwhelming favorite, some believe McGregor can pull off the major upset. If you’re looking to hit the jackpot, Bovada is offering +425 odds McGregor will end the match via knockout — a highly unlikely outcome, but one that is possible if Mayweather is somehow caught off-guard.

There’s no shortage of intriguing proposition bets leading up to the fight.

BetOnline is offering a prop bet on whether the bout will even happen on Aug. 26. Yes, is favored at -700, however there’s that slim chance one fighter gets injured or McGregor changes his mind — and in that case, BetOnline is offering +450 odds.

Mayweather and McGregor will sit a few feet apart prior to the bo

ut when the fighters take part in a final press conference. Will there be a confrontation that day? BetOnline has No as the -280 favorite, while there’s +220 odds the press conference will in fact get heated.

Expect the first couple rounds to be a feeling-out process for both fighters. Once Mayweather shakes off the potential rust from being out of the ring for more than 700 days, then McGregor will be in deep, deep trouble.

Prediction: Floyd Mayweather by decision (-650, Bovada)
