Dustin Johnson to Win a Major in 2017?

Bovada Golf Special Odds

Dustin Johnson’s season started with so much promise — winning three straight tournaments early on, including the World Golf Championship Match Play crown. However, the world No. 1 hasn’t been able to regain his sensational form after suffering an injury that kept him from playing at The Masters.

“Since I got hurt at Augusta, my game hasn’t been nearly as good as it was,” Johnson told The Associated Press in a recent interview. With one major victory already on his resume, does Johnson have what it takes to win another in 2017? Johnson’s next chance to add another major to his trophy case will come on July 20 at The Open Championship.

Dustin Johnson To Win a Major +350

Johnson is one of the favorites heading into this year’s tournament, which will be played at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England. The hard-driving American is a +1200 favorite to capture his first Claret Jug — a trophy that is still missing from Johnson’s impressive resume.

After a poor performance at the U.S. Open last month, the pressure will be on Johnson, who will have to contend against a deep field that includes other favorites such as Jordan Spieth (+1200) and 2014 champion Rory McIlroy (+1400).

Johnson finished ninth at the 2016 British Open after carding a 2-under, 282 but fell 18 strokes behind champion Henrik Stenson, who fired a 63 in the final round at Royal Troon.

However, DJ has missed the cut in his last two tournaments, including the U.S. Open where he shot two miserable rounds of 75 and 73. Johnson’s last strong performance was in May at the Wells Fargo Championship when he tied for second overall.

If Johnson comes out empty handed following The Open Championship, his last chance to win a major in 2017 will come in August at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. McIlory is the early odds-on favorite at +750, followed by Johnson at +800.

Johnson’s best finish at the PGA Championship was in 2010 when he placed fifth overall. If Johnson can regain the form that made him so dominant at the start of the year, expect bettors to jump all over Bovada’s +800 line to win the PGA Championship, which begins on Aug. 10.

Golf Betting Lines at Bovada

While Johnson’s chance of winning a major in 2017 are relatively high, is offering several intriguing moneyline wagers heading into The Open and the PGA Championship.

Jason Day hasn’t exactly had a strong 2017 season, but the Aussie saves his best golf for when it matters the most. Day — a 2015 PGA Championship winner — is a +2500 sleeper to take the Claret Jug. Day is among the favorites at +1200 to win his second PGA Championship title.

Spieth has struggled in majors this year, but the young American already has a U.S. Open title under his belt and will be a favorite to capture another crown in 2017 as a +1000 favorite at the PGA Championship. Despite a below-average season, it’s a positive sign Spieth won his first title of the year last month, taking the Travelers Championship in dramatic fashion.

Rickie Fowler is also a player to watch in both remaining majors of 2017. The American has been knocking on the door in three of the last four events he’s played in, earning top-five finishes in each tournament — including a fifth-place finish at the U.S. Open last month. Bovada is pegging Fowler as a +1400 favorite to win The Open and a +2200 underdog to take the PGA Championship.
