Online Sports Betting’s 2015 Quicken Loans National Preview

Online Sports Betting’s 2015 Quicken Loans National Preview
Justin Rose is aiming for his third title at the Quicken Loans National, but to do so he'll have to fend off a formidable field that includes Rickie Fowler, Jimmy Walker and Tiger Woods. Here's our look at this year's tournament.

A Look At The Course

The 2015 edition of the Quicken Loans National is scheduled to go down at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in suburban Washington D.C.. It's the first time The National's been played at this scenic RTJ designed course, but it has hosted its fair share of events in the near quarter-century it's been around. You may recognize the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club from the four times it's hosted the Presidents Cup. "It really is breathtaking," says tournament director Mike Antolini of the course. "Just a stunning piece of property on Lake Manassas. It's very green, the sand is white, and the lake is just beautiful."

Our Pick To Win

Justin Rose (leading the field as an 8/1 bet) is aiming for back-to-back Quicken Loans National titles at this week's tournament which would give him three wins at this tourney overall. He's certainly a worthy golfer to peg as the most likely to win (which oddsmakers have), but we think it's important not to overlook Jimmy Walker (16/1) as a threat to win. The 36-year-old has been sneaky good this year on the PGA Tour and he's quietly settled himself into the #3 position in the FEDEXCUP standings. He also matches up well with the challenges and opportunities provided by the course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. If you'll check out the oh so valuable (if still somewhat new) Strokes Gained-Putting metric, you'll see that Walker has been unmatched in that department in 2015. The course features a fair bit of water to look at, but that's decieving as its only truly a hazard on the 11th hole. Walker will have to top contenders like Rose, Rickie Fowler (10/1), Justin Thomas (25/1) and Tony Finau (33/1) to win, a feat we think Walker can accomplish. We think there's value in Jimmy Walker.

Our Pick: Jimmy Walker (16/1)

By The Way...

Tiger sighting! Tiger Woods will be looking to turn things around after failing to make the cut at the British Open. The formerly ferocious competitor getting bounced out of back-to-back majors is something we've never seen before. Woods has had some good fortune on this course, winning both the 2000 and 2005 Presidents Cup as a member of Team United States.

A Look Ahead

The 2015 PGA Championship isn't all that far away. Jordan Spieth will look to win his third major of 2015 this August and he's currently pegged as a 5/1 shot to do it. Oddsmakers also have Rory McIlroy (6/1), Dustin Johnson (10/1) and Jason Day (14/1) as serious contenders. Mind you, McIlroy's recovery from injury makes his status for the PGA Championship a bit of a mystery.
