The Breeders’ Cup Sprint is one of the fastest and most thrilling races on the Breeders’ Cup program. The six-furlong race features some of the most brilliant sprinters in the world and offers a purse of $1.5 million. Last year, the freakishly fast Runhappy paid $5.20 as the heavy favorite to win after engaging in a speed duel with the formidable Private Zone.

How To Win Breeders' Cup Sprint Bets

The Breeders’ Cup Sprint is Race 11 on the Breeders’ Cup weekend and goes on Saturday, November 5th from Santa Anita. Post time is 4:01 p.m. PDT.

      Probable starters with odds

      1. Masochistic (3-1) – This horse is going to be awfully tough to defeat on his home track. Very lightly raced this year with only two starts (and two wins) and that conservative strategy will either pay off big time or he will be nowhere to be found.
      2. Lord Nelson (7-2) – He is another West Coast horse with an advantage at Santa Anita and comes in off of four straight wins, three against Grade 1 company. Versatile, tactical and will be Masochistic’s biggest threat.
      3. A.P. Indian (9-2) – Track record at Keeneland in his last start and he can absolutely keep up with the top two. The question is whether his running style is as effective at Santa Anita.
      4. Drefong (5-1) – He is going to have to face a very talented group of older horses here and may be most challenged by his own stablemate, Lord Nelson.
      5. Delta Bluesman (15-1) – The top three or four contenders are in a league of their own here. He earned his way in through a qualifying race in Florida but would need to step up numbers-wise to be a factor.
      6. Joking (15-1) – He is as good now as he has ever been but would need a lot to go his way to be a real threat
      7. Limousine Liberal (15-1) – He showed improvement with the equipment change in the Phoenix and the blinkers seemed to help. He ran a huge speed figure last time and may regress off of that.
      8. Noholdingback Bear (15-1) – He gets points for consistency but has been consistent against a lesser class of horses. He may find this group too tough.
      9. Mind Your Biscuits (30-1) – He is a significant cut below this field numbers-wise but his running style makes him an interesting longshot in the bottom portion of exotics.
