Mets Go For Team-Record 12th Straight Win Friday At Yankees

The Subway Series between the Mets and Yankees rarely needs any more hype, but Friday's game at Yankee Stadium is potentially one of the biggest regular-season games between the two teams as the Mets could set a franchise record with their 12th straight win. However, the Yankees are -117 favorites on BetOnline with a total of 7 runs.

11th Heaven

The Mets tied the team record with win No. 11 by beating Atlanta 6-3 on Thursday. All-Star second baseman Daniel Murphy was the hero with four RBIs. as the Mets finished 10-0 on their first homestand of the season after sweeping a trio of National League East rivals. This is the fifth time the Mets have won 11 games in a row and the first since 1990. On two of those occasions, in 1969 and 1986, they won the World Series. New York took advantage of eight walks and tied the 1986 World Series champions for the best start in team history at 13-3.

Jeurys Familia worked a hitless ninth for his major league-best eighth save in eight tries since taking over for injured and suspended closer Jenrry Mejia. New York had never won all 10 games on a homestand before. The Mets are the seventh team in major league history to do so and the first since the 1991 Minnesota Twins. In 19 seasons of interleague play, the Mets have never been on more of an emotional high heading into a Subway Series.

"That was one of our goals coming out of Spring Training: We had to change the mind-set not only in our fan base, but in our clubhouse," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "We are different. There are expectations. I think it says a huge message to our fans that what we said, we meant."

Yanks Also Rolling

The Yankees come off an impressive series in Detroit, taking three of four from perhaps the American League's best team. The Yankees completed a tremendous road trip, going 7-3, winning six of their final seven. The Yankees did it Thursday behind the pitching of Masahiro Tanaka, Justin Wilson, Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller, while the offense scratched its two runs on a balk and a groundout in a 2-1 win over Detroit. For Miller -- who struck out Miguel Cabrera to begin the ninth -- it was his sixth save. Alex Rodriguez got the day off but will play Friday.

The pitching matchup features the Mets' Jacob deGrom vs. the Yankees' Michael Pineda in a battle of 26-year-olds. DeGrom, last year's NL Rookie of the year, has a 2-1 record and 0.93 ERA that's among the NL leaders. In his first start of the season, deGrom allowed a two-run first inning home run in Washington to Ryan Zimmerman and lost the game. He has not allowed a run since, taking an 18 1/3-inning scoreless streak into this game. DeGrom made one start against the Yankees last year and took the loss, allowing one earned run and four hits over seven innings, striking out six.

Pineda (2-0, 5.00) has been inconsistent this season. He had two pretty good starts, allowing three earned runs or less, but had one in  Baltimore where he allowed five runs and nine hits over 6.1 innings. He has never faced the Mets.
