Online Sports Betting’s Weekly MLB Power Rankings (October 1 Edition)
October has finally arrived! The playoffs are at the doorstep and the cream of the crop are preparing to do battle for the World Series. As we do every Thursday, we like to take a peek at Major League Baseball's most fearsome squads in our weekly Power Rankings.

5. Kansas City Royals

Odds To Win The World Series: 11/2

No one would accuse the Kansas City Royals of being in any sort of freefall, but they've looked limp in September and losing two out of three to Cleveland isn't a great way to improve the optics. The usual gripe about Kansas City remains the same as October arrives: This is a team that needs to improve its pitching if it wants to make a proper postseason run. The Royals haven't even cracked 70 quality starts on the year and now the team's faded out of having the best record in the American League.

4. Chicago Cubs

Odds To Win The World Series: 10/1

Skipper Joe Maddon has guided the Cubs to their first postseason berth since 2008. 21 win hurler Jake Arrieta has got to be a lock to be on the mound for that future Wild Card showdown, eh? The 29-year-old right hander has had a Cy Young quality season with Chicago and leads to the team in strikeouts and ERA. One spot where the Cubs can improve is making contact at the plate. The team's batting average is among the lowest in the league at a sub .250 total. The club's assortment of wonder rookies will look to sort that out in October.

3. Pittsburgh Pirates

Odds To Win The World Series: 10/1

It looks like the Pittsburgh Pirates are going to come up short in their bid to surge past the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central standings, but a playoff spot is guaranteed for 2015. (Watch out for Arrieta!) The Bucs have racked up the most regular season wins in a season for the franchise since their Barry Bonds days. Getting blanked in back-to-back games against Chicago and St. Louis has caused a mild bit of worry, but Pittsburgh's bats still have the ability to erupt on an unsuspecting opponent.

2. St. Louis Cardinals

Odds To Win The World Series: 11/2

The Cards are preparing to enter the postseason with a roster that's had a few additions and substractions. Adam Wainwright, who has been out since late April with an achilles injury, is returning to the club to add his arm to the bullpen. Meanwhile, outfielder Stephen Piscotty's head injury may not be as big of an issue as originally thought. Piscotty is slated to possibly be back before the end of the regular season. Not returning before the end of the season is starting pitcher Carlos Martinez who has been shut down to deal with a shoulder strain.

1. Toronto Blue Jays

Odds To Win The World Series: 4/1

Toronto have locked up their first playoff spot since 1993 and are currently perched atop the entire American League standings. Injured shortstop Troy Tulowizki is on his way back from a cracked shoulder blade, a development Blue Jays fans are very happy about. It's been said over and over again, but Toronto's been an offensive juggernaut this year. The team leads the Majors in runs, homers, RBI, slugging percentage and on base percentage.
