Who’s Got The Power?: Online Sports Betting’s Weekly MLB Power Rankings (July 30 Edition)

Who’s Got The Power?: Online Sports Betting’s Weekly MLB Power Rankings (July 30 Edition)
The trade deadline looms and Major League Baseball's beginning to sort out who is a contender and who is a pretender. Each and every Thursday we look at the game's most fearsome squads in our weekly MLB Power Rankings.

The MLB trade deadline is arrives on Friday (even though there's kind of a way around it) and the AL and NL's playoff races are beginning to sort out the strong and the suffering. As we do every single Thursday, we’ve rounded up our picks for the five best teams in baseball as of this week. If your team’s in the Top 5, you might want to consider taking some time off work in October. If it’s not, shake the 8 Ball again and check back with us in a week. (Unless you’re a Phillies fan because we all know how that movie’s going to end.)

5. Washington Nationals

Odds To Win The World Series: 8/1

The Nats pulled the trigger on a deal this week that has closer Jonathan Papelbon joining the team. The trade comes as a mild surprise as previous closer (and now setup guy) Drew Storen had been doing an excellent job this season.

4. New York Yankees

Odds To Win The World Series: 14/1

Are the Yanks particularly good or is this just an AL East mirage? The divison's been trashed this year, but New York's AL club has been playing great and have just won sets versus Minnesota and Texas. The Yankees are currently a Top 5 club in the Majors when it comes to runs, home runs, on base percentage, slugging percentage and RBI.

3. Pittsburgh Pirates

Odds To Win The World Series: 10/1

The Bucs sit in second place in the NL Central and #3 in our power rankings. Pittsburgh's looked fantastic this week. They took 3 of 4 versus the NL East leading Nationals and won both encounters against a pugnacious Twins squad. As we note every time we do this thing: The Pirates are the club with Gerrit Cole, Starling Marte and Andrew McCutchen. Who wants to go up against that?

2. St. Louis Cardinals

Odds To Win The World Series: 8/1

The Cards continue to be the best club going in the National League. The NL's only 60+ win team continues to take care of business with a steady diet of strong pitching. One troublesome sight for St. Louis fans this week was watching left fielder Matt Holliday leave Wednesday's game versus the Reds with a possibly quad injury.

1. Kansas City Royals

Odds To Win The World Series: 6/1

You know how the Royals have been fantastic but their starting pitching could use some help? Ex-Cincy ace Johnny Cueto brings an extremely valuable arm into KC's rotation and that should terrify opponents. (A 61-39 record and a nine game AL Central cushion should spook clubs too.) Not only is Cueto aboard, but the Royals have also snapped A's outfielder Ben Zobrist. So much for 2014 being a fluke campaign.
