Cavs Vs Raptors Game 2 Betting Lines & Analysis

By Dan Favale

Cleveland Cavaliers (-12.5) vs. Toronto Raptors (+12.5)

You typically shouldn't grapple over a 12.5 point spread, even during the playoffs. For one, those lines don't normally exist during the playoffs. These games are supposed to be tightly contested. But, overall, you should just be able to look at a monster line and be confident in betting one way or the other.

This isn't one of those times. Game 2 between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors is different.

Yes, the Cavaliers won by 31 points in Game 1. And sure, it would be incredibly surprising if the Raptors pushed this series to more than five games. But back to back blowout wins over the second best team in your conference is a tall order—most likely too tall.

DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry, we maintain, have to get going on the same night at some point. Lowry in particular won't shoot 4-of-14 from the floor forever. And the Raptors should be able to get more substantial contributions as the series goes on from supporting cast members like Cory Joseph (1-of-6), Terrence Ross (1-of-5) and DeMarre Carroll (1-of-5).

This is not to say the Raptors have theoretically earned your pick. They most definitely haven't. That DeRozan and Lowry have been this topsy turvy, for this long, is a red flag. This team clearly isn't built to beat the Cavaliers, as some suggested during the regular season.

They are good enough, though, to keep this game close, even without big man Jonas Valanciunas. His replacement, Bismack Biyombo, has been a revelation as a rim protector and pick-and-roll diver. If the Raptors' defensive rotations are even a hair better, and if two or more of their key players, specifically Lowry, offer up better efforts, this team will be able to avoid a repeat of Game 1.

The Cavaliers should still win, make no mistake. You're not betting on an actual moneyline upset. Truth be told, the Raptors probably won't win. But you can also take solace in the fact that things aren't going to get much worse, either. Roll with them one last time on this double digit spread before viewing them as sportsbooks pushovers for the rest of this Eastern Conference Finals matchup.

The Pick: Raptors (+12.5)
