NBA Finals Game 4 Prediction

Cavs Vs Warriors Game 4 Analysis & Betting Lines

By Dan Favale

Cleveland Cavaliers (-2) vs. Golden State Warriors (+2)

Look, some of you are excited. I get it. The Cleveland Cavaliers absolutely obliterated the Golden State Warriors in Game 3. Thoroughly outclassed them in every way imaginable.

Suddenly, it seems like they have a shot—like they could tie this series up at two games apeice and put the Warriors on the ropes in Oakland for Game 5. And maybe they can't.

But probably not.

Some of us, including yours truly, got burned in Game 3 by picking the Warriors. We overreacted to their mutilations of the Cavaliers in Games 1 and 2. Let's not do the same with Cleveland's victory in Game 3.

For starters, the Warriors' Big Three of Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry won't play that poorly, collectively, again. One of them will get going. And when they do, the Warriors stand a better chance of returning to their brutalizing form.

Beyond that, we have to consider the potential return of Kevin Love. Does he help or hurt the Cavaliers if he plays? We don't know. We also don't know if Richard Jefferson can play that well in his stead again. Or if J.R. Smith will get as many wide-open looks.

So much of what helped the Cavaliers in Game 3 is the Warriors' sloppiness, on both defense and offense. They turned the ball over. They missed rotations. They blew shot opportunities. They weren't working hard enough off the ball.

In short, Game 3 was an outing unbecoming, and uncharacteristic, of these Warriors. And they know it, too. Green in particular was candid during his postgame interviews. In turn, we cannot expect them to play like they did on Wednesday again.

These Warriors are nothing if not adaptive. With the exception of their brief downward spiral against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, they have responded well to losses all season. That series is the only time all year, in fact, that they lost back to back games.

Do we expect them to roll over or fold, just because of one loss in Cleveland, or just because they struggled mightily against the Thunder? No. At least, we shouldn't.

The smartest play is still to roll with the Warriors. Either their offense or defense will be better, maybe both. Plus, the Cavaliers cannot bank on LeBron James hitting as many jumpers as he did in Game 3. That's what opened up their entire offensive model, and he has struggled from the perimeter all season.

This game could be close. It should be close. But, when weighing the grand scheme of things, it should also end with a Warriors victory.

The Pick: Warriors (+2)
