NBA Finals Game 6 Prediction

Warriors Vs Cavs Game 6 Betting Lines & Preview

By Dan Favale

Cleveland Cavaliers (-2.5) vs. Golden State Warriors (+2.5)

There is no rest for the Cleveland Cavaliers' resilience. After falling behind the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals 3-1, they have started their trek back into the series, winning Game 5 on the road at Oracle Arena. But that's just the first part of their comeback attempt. They face yet another elimination outing in Game 6 on Thursday.

The latest matchup will prove measurably tougher for the Cavaliers, even though it's taking place on their own turf. Though the Warriors have likely lost Andrew Bogut, they will welcome Draymond Green back from his one game suspension, instantly driving up the value of both their offense and defense.

What's more is it took a pair of otherworldly performances from LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in Game 5 to extend the Cavaliers' season. The two of them shot an insane percentage on a bunch of highly contested shots. Irving finished around the rim amid inordinates amount of traffic; LeBron's jumper was just plain on, contrary to how it's been all season.

There is no counting on both of them to do the same in Game 6. Heck, even banking on one of them to put forth a viable repeat performance is flimsy. LeBron and Irving laid down two of the best individual efforts in NBA Finals history in Game 5. That cannot be the bar to which they are held in every game.

For the Cavaliers to really put up a fight, they need their supporting cast to step up. Kevin Love cannot take only five shots—or, for that matter, make only one of them—if he's going to play more than 30 minutes. Likewise, the Cavaliers need for J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert and Richard Jefferson to knock down their open treys, lest the three-point deficit between they and the Warriors grow too large.

And that's the other thing: The Cavaliers must keep the Warriors' three-point snipers in check. They cannot afford to be a minus-21 or more from beyond the arc. They will lose if that happens. They were a minus-12 from downtown in Game 5, which is a managable hole. Anything larger is NBA Finals suicide.

Here's the rub: The Warriors have responded to losses well all season. And they were in position to win Game 5 for about 40 of the 48 minutes without Green. Stephen Curry, on top of that, cannot play any worse.

Golden State, in turn, will only improve upon its Game 5 letdown, which is very, very bad news for the Cavaliers.

The Pick: Warriors (+2.5)
