Online Friday NBA Playoff Betting Tips

Washington Wizards at Atlanta Hawks (-3)

In the closest game of the series, Washington escaped Game 5 with a 103-99 victory. Atlanta point guard Dennis Schroder almost provided the heroics, scoring 29 points — including five shots from beyond the arc — and dished 11 assists.

A hero performance from an unlikely source is ultimately what Game 6, and a likely Game 7, will come down to. Both of these teams know their strengths. The Wizards dominate on the wings with their tandem of Bradley Beal and John Wall. In Game 5 Beal dropped 27 points, while Wall scored 20 and had 14 assists.

Meanwhile, the Hawks absolutely own the paint. Paul Millsap is still playing angry after all the back-and-forth banter, as he finished last game with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

If either one of these teams can get a player not named Wall, Beal, or Millsap to step up big, then watch out. You have to believe the 23-year-old Schroder is playing with confidence after Game 5, so he's a good candidate to rise to the occasion.

The road team has yet to win a game this series, which doesn't bode well for the visiting Wizards. Expect Atlanta to force a Game 7.

Pick: Atlanta (-3)

Over/under 204 points: Boston Celtics at Chicago Bulls

This is a series of two tales — one with Rajon Rondo and one without. His absence in the Bulls lineup the past three games sticks out like a sore thumb (no pun intended).

Since Rondo's thumb injury, Chicago's offense has been largely lethargic, averaging 93 points, compared to 108 points with him. The attack just plays disjointed, clearly missing Rondo's pace-setting abilities.

The bad news for the Bulls is Rondo is likely done for the series. He's doubtful for Game 6 and they probably won't extend this to a Game 7 anyway.

While Boston will likely close out this series, their offense needs work going forward. It's evident that this team can't pick up the slack when Isaiah Thomas isn't playing lights out. Moreover, Game 5 was dotted with bad shot selection by the Celtics, who went 9-of-40 from the three-point line. That's not going to fly against the better teams.

But for now, expect another bowling-shoe ugly game in Game 6. Both teams have gone long stretches this series without punch in their offense, so it's become the norm now.

Pick: Under

Los Angeles Clippers at Utah Jazz (-5.5)

Is there a more overrated head coach in the NBA than Doc Rivers? With or without Blake Griffin, this Clippers team — the one with homecourt advantage, loaded with playoff experience, and led by the elite Chris Paul — should not be in win-or-go-home position entering Game 6. Yet, here they are, with another disastrous ending 60 minutes away.

Without Griffin, Los Angeles is getting killed on the glass. In Game 5, they were outrebounded 43-34 and gave up a few back-breaking offensive boards down the stretch. In the battle of the big men, the hobbled Rudy Gobert is getting the better of DeAndre Jordan.

Five games into this series and the Clippers still can't stop old man Joe Johnson. The 35-year-old is averaging 18 points a game this series. By comparison, Johnson averaged nine during the regular season.

Don't overlook the fact the Jazz erased a 2-1 series deficit with Gordon Hayward battling food poisoning the past two games. The All-Star will be back to regular form on Friday.

Few things are more enjoyable than watching a trainwreck and Los Angeles is that and more. Game 6 will prove to be the final collision for the Clippers, not just in this series, but going forward with Paul and Griffin free agents.

Pick: Utah (-5.5)
