Stephen Curry Ellie Mae Classic Props

We’ve seen what Stephen Curry is capable on the hard court. A two-time NBA champion, Curry will look to turn some heads when he tees off in the Web.com Tour’s Ellie Mae Classic on Aug. 3. What are his chances of making the cut? We break it down for you.

Ellie Mae Classic Props

Two-time NBA world champion Stephen Curry has made a living out of nailing jaw-dropping three-point shots on the basketball court. Can the Golden State Warriors superstar have the same touch with a pitching wedge?

Curry — also a two-time most valuable player — will trade in his sneakers for a set of golf clubs when he takes part in the Web.com Tour’s Ellie Mae Classic beginning Aug. 3.

The Ellie Mae Classic in an annual tournament which was first played in 2009 at TPC Stonebrae in Hayward, Calif. The purse for the event is $600,000. Defending champion Stephan Jaeger set the 18-hole scoring record (58) and 72-hole scoring record (250) at the 2016 Ellie Mae Classic. Jaeger finished the tournament with a remarkable score of 30-under.

Yes +1600
No -6600

Curry, who was granted unrestricted sponsor exemption status for the tournament, will be making his debut in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event but is definitely ready for the challenge ahead. “I am looking forward to it and hopefully not embarrassing myself,” Curry joked during his official announcement last month. “I’m going to try to keep it in the fairway and play well.”

As expected, Curry enters the Ellie Mae Classic as a massive dark horse to win the tournament. In fact, BetOnline is pegging the NBA star point guard at -6600 to make the cut at the event. Curry has defied odds in the past but this may a little be too much to ask from the defending champion, who is a +1600 underdog to make the cut.

Web.com Tour's Ellie Mae Classic

So how difficult will it be for Curry to make it to the third round and contend for the Ellie Mae Classic crown? In the 2016 tournament, many golfers that finished at 2-under through two rounds were sent home packing. That will be a daunting task for Curry.

BetOnline has set Curry’s projected first-round score at 82.5, which would put the four-time NBA all-star at 12-over after the opening round. The under is offering intriguing -105 odds while the over is paying -125. Curry won’t be at the top of the leaderboard but he’s sure to go under 82.5 in the opening round of the event.

While this may be Curry’s first time on the professional circuit, he’s no stranger to the game of golf. Curry is a regular at pro-am golf tournaments and has also competed in various charity events over the last few years.

Curry isn’t the only athlete to have played in the Ellie Mae Classic in the past. Legendary San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice played in the tournament in 2011 and 2012. Rice missed the cut the first go-around with scores of 83 and 76. He withdrew in 2012, after playing 27 holes and going 23-over.

The addition of Curry — a 2.2 handicap — has drawn some criticism among some of the pro players on the Web.com Tour who believe he’s taking a spot of another golfer looking to make it to the PGA Tour circuit. Nonetheless, Curry will be in the field playing for the Warriors Community Foundation, which benefits underserved students in the Bay Area.

When Will The NBA Come Back?

One thing is certain, Curry will not be quitting his day job of helping the Golden State Warriors become NBA champions. The Warriors, who have won two titles in three years, enter the 2017-18 season as the enticing -160 favorites to claim another NBA championship. The Cleveland Cavaliers come in right behind at +500. BetOnline is also offering +140 odds for a fourth consecutive finals rematch between the Warriors and Cavs.
