5 College Football Games Worth Watching This Week

5 College Football Games Worth Watching This Week
It feels like it's taken ages, but we've finally reached the beginning of a new college football season. Each week we take a peek at the very crowded NCAA FBS schedule and highlight five games that are definitely worth your time.

The Big Game

#20 Wisconsin vs. #3 Alabama - Saturday, September 5 (AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX)

Welcome to the "I Hate Ohio State" Bowl. Both #3 Alabama and #20 suffered big losses at the hands of the Buckeyes in 2014 and now they square off in the Lone Star State with the Crimson Tide favoured by ten. Nick Saban's squad is bursting with talent aimed at another 'Bama title campaign, but all eyes on Saturday will be on what the team does at quarterback. Cooper Bateman, Jake Coker and Alec Morris could all see some action against the Badgers and that's an intriguing prospect against a strong Wisconsin defense. This opening game will have a big impact on the playoff hopes of both schools. Big stakes in a big game. By the way, Alabama is 4-11-1 against the spread in their last 16 games.

Four More To Check Out

#1 Ohio State vs. Virginia Tech - Monday, September 7 (Lane Stadium, Blacksburg, VA)

Speaking of powerhouses with intriguing quarterback situations... The Buckeyes have a number of candidates for their pivot position, although that's simply a matter of being spoiled for choice. The defending champs are an eleven point road favourite for their tilt against Virginia Tech. The Hokies gave up for points-per-game last season which gives a bit of hope they can stifle the Buckeye attack, but weapons like rusher Ezekiel Elliott will make life difficult for the hosts.

Louisville vs. #6 Auburn - Saturday, September 5 (Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA)

Consider this game your state of the Tigers report. A sneaky good Louisville team heads to the ATL to give Auburn the business, although there are questions galore on if the program was able to refresh its starting talent after a bunch of exits. Expectations are high for Auburn's new starting QB Jeremy Jackson as Alabama's "other" team aims to snap up title of best in the SEC. The Tigers are considered 11 point favourites in this showdown.

#15 Arizona State vs. Texas A&M - Saturday, September 5 (NRG Stadium, Houston TX)

Depending on your level of confidence in the Aggies defensive rebuild, this appears to be a battle between two Top 25 (even if one isn't ranked) caliber teams. The pressure is on Todd Graham's Arizona State squad to deliver even more in 2015 and a clash with Texas A&M should serve as a big test. The megapowered offense of 2014 is still a component of A&M's game and the other side of the ball is expected to be improved. The Sun Devils are no slouch on the scoring side of things, mind you. ASU scored nearly 37 points-per-game last season. Oddsmakers peg Texas A&M as a three point favourite.

Texas vs. #11 Notre Dame - Saturday, September 5 (Notre Dame Stadium, Notre Dame IN)

We have no problem acknowledging that this game is going to get the bulk of its shine from brand name appeal, but there's a lot of intrigue at play too. Brian Kelly has a roster that could push the Fighting Irish into the national title picture, while Texas are aiming to build on the promise they showed at the end of last year's campaign. A speedy new offense may be the ticket to breathing new life into the Longhorns. Notre Dame are favoured by ten to win their home opener.
