Back To School: A College Football Preview Of The SEC

Back To School: A College Football Preview Of The SEC
Mighty Alabama once again appears to be the team to beat in the always intense SEC, but they've got contenders galore gunning for the conference crown. Georgia, LSU and Auburn are just some of the threats facing the Crimson Tide. Here's our lightning fast Pac-12 preview

What Happened Last Year?

Nick Saban's reign of terror continued in the SEC. Alabama bumped off Missouri 42-13 in the SEC title game and ventured forward to face Ohio State in playoff action. (As you might recall, things didn't pan out for the Crimson Tide against the Buckeyes.) The 2014 season boasted five Top 25 recognized schools, over a half-dozen bowl game champs and a multitude of stars that got snapped up in the 2015 NFL Draft. Once again, the West Division came across as much more fearsome than the East Division and we don't suppose that'll change in 2015.

Who's A Good Bet To Win This Year?

Alabama (15/2) enters the season looking as formidable as ever. The Saban era Crimson Tide can be counted on to replenish their starters year-after-year and 2015 features another influx of talent ready to step up. The Tide's amazing defense should induce nightmares in the SEC and beyond which makes them the most likely contender in the extremely competitive West Division. They're not our pick, though. The Tide are good, but they might be surpassed this year by threats like Ole Miss (40/1), LSU (25/1) and Texas A&M (40/1). Heck, there isn't a punching bag in the West Division bunch, not to mention scary Georgia (25/1) lurks in the East. In a pick that's sure to infuriate Alabama fans, we like their arch-rival Auburn's chances. The Tigers (9/1) are ready to win in 2015 with a spectacular offense and defense that'll be no doubt improved under coordinator Will Muschamp's watch. Jeremy Johnson is more than capable of taking over at pivot and Auburn has an incredible backfield where prized transfer Jovon Robinson and freshman phenom Roc Thomas will compete to be the #1 running back. The school will expose defenses courtesy of an explosive offense that'll be dangerous through the air and on the ground. We're confident that the addition of Muschamp will get the most out of the defense and Auburn will surpass Alabama as the best team in the SEC.

Our Pick: Auburn

A Sleeper Team To Keep Your Eye On

Contrary to popular belief, Texas A&M (40/1) did not close up shop after Johnny Football left town. The Aggies have the potential for some incredible things this season. Their recieving corps is outrageously good, the offense is primed to rack up touchdowns and and the defense (which includes star DE Myles Garrett) will get a boost from new coordinator John Chavis. Texas A&M doesn't need an all-star defense at the level of Alabama's, just a capable squad that can ensure the Aggies will enjoy the fruits of having a stallar offense. If the defense is servicable, Texas A&M could go a long way.

Our Pick: Texas A&M
