College Football Bowl Picks: Fighting Irish Enticing Underdogs

Odds are courtesy of Bovada.lv.

Outback Bowl

Michigan

Michigan Wolverines (-280) vs. South Carolina Gamecocks (+240)

The Bowl season has not been kind to the Michigan Wolverines over the last four years as the club has posted a 1-3 record during that span. The Wolverines hope to get back in the win column on New Year’s Day as they face the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Outback Bowl. The game begins at noon and can be seen on ESPN2. The Wolverines, who wrapped up their season with an 8-4 record, head into the playoff game as 7½-point favorites against South Carolina.

The Gamecocks, who are 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 bowl games, boast a strong offense that is averaging 212.92 passing yards per game. However, they will be in tough against Michigan’s 14th-ranked defense, allowing just 18.25 points per game. The Wolverines haven’t been great ATS this season, but they should be able to walk away with an Outback Bowl victory.

Pick: Michigan Wolverines (-280)

Peach Bowl

Auburn

Auburn Tigers (-360) vs. Central Florida Knights (+280)

The Central Florida Knights have been a success story in 2017 as the club went from a winless season in 2015 to being ranked 12th in the country this year. The Knights look to cap off a great season with a win against the Auburn Tigers in Monday’s Peach Bowl.

The game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and will air on ESPN. The Tigers finished with a 10-3 record and head into the New Year’s Day clash as 10-point favorites against the Knights, who wrapped up the regular season with a perfect 12-0 record. This is the third occasion these two programs have clashed, as the Tigers hold a perfect 3-0 all-time record against the Knights. Also, take into consideration Auburn is 5-1 straight up in its last 6 games heading into Monday’s Peach Bowl.

Pick: Auburn Tigers (-360)

Citrus Bowl

NotreDame

LSU Tigers (-155) vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+135)

The LSU Tigers are riding into the Citrus Bowl on a high note, posting a perfect 6-0 ATS record as they prepare to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on New Year’s Day.

The game kicks off at 1 p.m. and will air on ABC. The Tigers enter the matchup as 3-point favorites against a Fighting Irish team that has never played the role of underdog in a Citrus Bowl before. That is because Notre Dame, despite having one of the toughest schedules in the country, faltered down the stretch by going 1-2 SU and 0-3 ATS.

Notre Dame has still managed to put up an 8-2 record SU in its last 10 games. By comparison, LSU has posted a remarkable 7-2 record SU in its last 9 bowl games as the favorite. Expect a close match with the Fighting Irish pulling out a late-game victory.

Pick: Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+135)
