Kansas City Chiefs will Stay on Fire vs the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 13

For so much of the 2022 NFL season, the Buffalo Bills have held the best odds to win the Super Bowl. Somewhat quietly, though, the Kansas City Chiefs are demanding the consensus to reconsider.

Entering their Week 13 matchup vs. the Cincinnati Bengals, the Chiefs are a dominant 9-2, owners of the league's absolute best offense and have rattled off five wins in a row. Skeptics will point out their past five victories haven't exactly come against juggernauts. In order, they beat the San Francisco 49ers before they went kaboom; the Tennessee Titans; the Jacksonville Jaguars; the Los Angeles Chargers; and the reigning Super Bowl champion but fast fading Los Angeles Rams. Exactly one of these teams has serious playoff hopes (the Niners). So, yeah, the Chiefs haven't exactly been facing contenders.

That means the Bengals will pose an interesting, if necessary, test for Kansas City. Kick-off is set for Sunday, December 4, at 4:25 p.m. EST. Here are the latest NFL online betting odds for Chiefs vs. Bengals, courtesy of our friends at BetUS:

Winning on the Road in Cincinnati will be Tough, but the Kansas City Chiefs Can Do It

We would be more worried about the Chiefs edging out the Bengals if Cincinnati was defending like it did last year. But they're not. The Bengals are a good-not-great 13th in points allowed per game and have been especially middling when it comes to defending the pass. Though they are third in passing touchdowns allowed, they don't rank in the top 10 of any other category.

That's not to say Cincinnati's defense is somehow a turnstile. It's not. But the Chiefs make mincemeat out of everyoneKansas City hung 41 points on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and 44 points on the San Francisco 49ers—teams that represent two of the most elite defenses around. The Chiefs have also failed to hit 26 or more points just twice since Week 4, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes has somehow improved his decision-making and accuracy under pressure.

To the Bengals' credit, quarterback Joe Burrow has made strides, too. Only one team in the league has registered more passing touchdowns...and it's the Chiefs. This is truly a matchup of two elite offenses. The main difference? Mahomes is better than Burrow. And more than that, even if Burrow plays Mahomes to a deadlock, the Chiefs have an actual rushing attack. Cincinnati does not.

Can the Bengals Continue Their Impressive Run of Covering the Point Spread in Week 13?

Here are the latest NFL point spread betting odds for Chiefs vs. Bengals in Week 13:

  • Kansas City Chiefs, -2.5 (-115)
  • Cincinnati Bengals, +2.5 (-105)

For any spread under three points, we always endorse just picking the team you want to win. Granted, the Chiefs have dabbled in some close games. Especially on the road. The Bengals have also routinely been involved in one-possession affairs over the second half of the season.

That's not quite enough evidence to presume Cincinnati will lose by less than a field goal. Kansas City has racked up all nine of their victories by an average of 10 points, and they generally haven't had too much trouble meeting their season averages on the road. We're taking them to cover, and we're not looking back.

Will Chiefs vs. Bengas be the High Scoring Affair Oddsmakers Expect It to Be?

Below you can the latest NFL over/under betting odds for Bengals vs. Chiefs in Week 13:

  • Over 52.5 (-110)
  • Under 52.5 (-110)

Those who bet on the "over" have so far come up on the losing side for both Kansas City and Cincinnati. The Bengals are 4-6-1 against the over. The Chiefs are 5-6.

This tends to happen when you're dealing with explosive offenses. Oddsmakers and bettors usually overestimate what transpires and assume everything will turn into a shootout. While we won't remove that possibility from the table, we also shouldn't pretend that the Chiefs and Bengals don't play defense. Both are hovering around league-average ranks.

What's more, a 53-point-or-more final score qualifies as higher-end for each squad. The Chiefs, specifically, have played in games that exceed 53 total points just twice through their last six appearances. The Bengals, meanwhile, have combined with their opponent to top 53 points just twice all season.

We understand anyone who wants to roll the dice on the over. But we can't bring ourselves to do it.

OSB Prediction: Under 52.5 (-110)
