Betting On Houston Texans Online

The Houston Texans used to be the team other AFC South squads pushed around. That’s changed over the last few years as the Texans won back-to-back division crowns in 2015 and 2016. It’s a sign of great things to come for the Texans, who were established as an expansion team in 2002. Among the club’s top accomplishments was winning four division titles in total, also claiming the AFC South crown in 2011 and 2012. The Texans pride themselves on having one of the best defenses in the entire National Football League. [+]

The early years for the Texans were rough, but by 2006 when Gary Kubiak took over as head coach, the club finished with respectable 8-8 records in 2007 and 2008. Houston made its first playoff appearance in 2011 and defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC wild card game.

Former Texans QB Matt Schaub had the longest tenure as Houston’s starting pivot and holds the franchise record for all-time passing yards with 23,221. Arian Foster was the face of the franchise for the Texans for many years and is the club’s all-time rushing leader with 6,472 yards and 54 touchdowns. Andre Johnson’s 13,597 total receiving yards also stands as a franchise best.

Houston Texans Online Betting Tips

Coming off its second straight AFC South-winning campaign, there will be high expectations for the Houston Texans once again in 2017.

A healthy J.J. Watt will return to Houston’s already-potent defense, which ranked first overall in the NFL in 2016. The Texans held their opponents to a league-leading 301.3 yards per game and allowed 20.5 points per game, which also ranked among the top teams in the NFL. Only the Denver Broncos boasted a better passing defense than the Texans, whose 3,226 total yards against was good for second overall.

While the Texans continue to dominate on D, the team’s lack of a No. 1 quarterback has held them back from being true Super Bowl contenders. The club finished 29th overall in passing yards with Brock Osweiler quarterbacking the Texans. Parting ways with the struggling pivot, the Texans are now faced with uncertainty at the position with Tom Savage and rookie Deshaun Watson as their only options.

BetOnline set Houston’s projected total wins at 8.5, which means the Texans would have to match their nine-victory campaign from 2016. Taking the under may be the way to go, which would pay +110. As good as the Texans’ defense is, it’ll be hard to win games when you can’t score points.

Another glaring issue for the Texans is the club’s inability to win games on the road, going 2-6 away from NRG Stadium. If you’re going to put your money on Houston, do it when the club is on home field, where the Texans posted a remarkable 7-1 record in 2016.
