NFL Player Props: Colin Kaepernick On a NFL Roster for Game 1?

NFL Player Props: Colin Kaepernick On a NFL Roster for Game 1?
Colin Kaepernick is still on the free agent market, but will an National Football League team bite before the start of the 2017-18 season? We look at a few potential landing spots for the former San Francisco 49ers QB and whether he’ll sign with a club prior to opening kickoff.

NFL Opening Day Player Props

Colin Kaepernick’s beliefs off the football field have garnered national headlines over the last year. The once highly regarded quarterback made a statement during the 2016 season when he refused to stand during the American national anthem — a protest which was motivated by what he viewed as the oppression of African Americans.

But has Kaepernick’s protest caused NFL teams to shy away from signing the QB?

Many experts and NFL insiders have offered their own opinions on Kaepernick still being available on the market. “I believe Collin Kaepernick is better than every other backup quarterback in the National Football League,” former Denver Broncos star and current NFL analyst Shannon Sharpe recently said on Skip and Shannon: Undisputed. “I believe he’s better than, let’s just say, everybody on the Jets … the Bears.”

Will Colin Kaepernick be on a NFL Roster for Game 1 of 2017 Regular Season?

TopBet is offering an enticing proposition wager on that, with yes being the underdog at +200 and no coming in as the -260 favorite. It’s hard to ignore Kaepernick’s accomplishments throughout all of this. The 29-year-old pivot, who was selected by the San Francisco in 2011, took the starting job after an injury to Alex Smith opened the door. In 2012, Kaepernick led the 49ers to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1994, losing to the Ravens in the final...

So why are teams not interested in the mobile quarterback? With the 2017 regular season looming, will Kaepernick finally find himself on an NFL roster prior to Week 1? Here are a few teams that could use Kaepernick’s services heading into the 2017-18 NFL campaign.

Carolina Panthers

Cam Newton has remained healthy in six NFL seasons, missing only three games since 2014. But the Carolina Panthers’ superstar quarterback has taken quite a bit of abuse along the way. Newton is the backbone of Carolina’s offense and if he goes down, the next man up is 34-year-old veteran quarterback Derek Anderson.

That’s where Kaepernick could come into play. The former 49ers quarterback may not have the arm strength Newton displays, but his ground game is strong and he has the ability to move the chains as well. Kaepernick is also a much better option than Anderson, who played five games in 2016 and threw five interceptions.

Denver Broncos

Here’s a team that could compete for another AFC West title with an average quarterback leading the way. The Denver Broncos rely heavily on their defense to win games, as the offense struggles to put points on the board. In his first full season as starting quarterback of the Broncos, Trevor Siemian completed 289 of 486 throwing attempts and posted 3,401 passing yards. The potential addition of Kaepernick would give the Broncos some much-needed insurance should Siemian falter during the season.

Baltimore Ravens

Joe Flacco is undoubtedly the No. 1 quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. But the Super Bowl champion pivot will be out the opening week as he continues to nurse a back injury — something that could linger throughout the NFL season. Adding Kaepernick as precaution to back up Flacco would be a wise move for the Ravens, who will battle the Steelers for tops in the AFC North. Flacco and Kaepernick have two different styles, but the latter would be a more viable option than current backup Ryan Mallett.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are going to be bad. So why not be bad with a better quarterback? The Bears have Mike Glennon, Mitchell Trubisky and Mark Sanchez to choose from, so expect a season full of pain as the club moves forward. Kaepernick wouldn’t have to be the top guy right away either, especially considering he’s had no training camp or pre-season action. Nonetheless, Kaepernick would be in a nice fit in Chicago — a club desperately looking to get back to competing for an NFC North title.

Jacksonville Jaguars

There may soon be an opening for starting quarterback with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Rumours have been swirling that Blake Bortles is close to losing the top job, paving the way for backup Chad Henne to take over the reins. In all due respect to Henne, he’s been in the starting role before and failed. Kaepernick’s best season produced 3,197 passing yards to go along with 21 touchdown passes. The most TD passes Henne has thrown in a single season was 15.

Prediction: Colin Kaepernick will eventually catch on with an National Football League team, but it won’t be before the start of the NFL season. (-260)
