It may not be reflected in their 3-2 record to open the 2022 NFL season, but the San Francisco 49ers are on what could be a meteoric rise. And their Week 6 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons should help show us all why.
Are we saying you should go hammer the Niners' odds to win the Super Bowl right now? Not exactly. They have questions on offense. But the San Francisco defense is a special brand of terrifying. It's elite by every imaginable metric and doesn't include any discernible weaknesses. If they can get a semblance of consistency from their offense, then yes, we may very well be looking at a Super Bowl candidate.
But that's an issue to tackle down the line. Right now, let's have a look at the latest NFL online betting odds for the 49ers vs. Falcons entering Week 6, courtesy of our friends from BetUS:

The Atlanta Falcons Stand No Chance Against the San Francisco 49ers Defense
Kudos to the Falcons for propping up a 16th-place offense this season. Seriously. When they traded quarterback Matt Ryan over the offseason and pivoted into the Marcus Mariota era, everyone thought they'd have one of the worst attacks in existence. Their capacity to consistently clear 24 points per game is truly impressive.
Then again, it's also under siege.
Atlanta is averaging just 19 points per game over the past two weeks. Now, they go up against a Niners defense allowing just 12.2 points per game—best mark in the NFL.
Finding a weak point for Atlanta to attack is difficult. It might be impossible. San Francisco's defense is dominating on all cylinders. They rank second in net yards allowed per passing attempt and first in yards surrendered per rushing attempt. That is bonkers.
Contrarian bettors are free to doubt the Niners offense under quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. We would even encourage it. But the Niners have totaled 61 points across their past two games, and Atlanta currently fields one of the seven worst passing defenses in the business. San Francisco shouldn't have any trouble scoring juuust enough to support their defense.
OSB Prediction: San Francisco 49ers (-235)
Why Betting the Point Spread in 49ers vs. Falcons Could Be Touch-and-Go
Below you can find the latest point spread betting odds for the 49ers vs. Falcons matchup in Week 6:
- San Francisco 49ers, -5.5 (-106)
- Atlanta Falcons, +5.5 (-114)
Theoretically, this point spread is dangerous if you're investing in the Niners. They haven't cobbled together the offensive consistency necessary to suggest they're built to routinely win by a touchdown or more.
And yet, all three of San Francisco's wins have come by at least 15 points. In fact, their average margin of victory this season is over 19.6 points.
You don't need that average to hold against the Falcons. But knowing how many extra bites at the apple San Francisco's defense gives their offense, you can trust the Niners will have so many opportunities to score that, well, they'll actually score.
OSB Prediction: San Francisco 49ers, -5.5 (-106)
Will San Francisco and Atlanta Generate Enough Offense to Cover the Over in Week 6?
Here are the latest over/under betting odds for Niners vs. Falcons:
- Over 43.5 (-110)
- Under 43.5 (-110)
Linemakers have posted a lot of sub-45-point over/under markers this week. Virtually all of them are difficult to figure out.
Atlanta and San Francisco appears easy at first glance. Both rank smack dab in the middle of points per game. However, that still means they average over 45 points per game combined. That would be enough to take us to the over, albeit just barely. Even more complicated, the Niners have toppled their past two opponents, clearing at least 27 points in each of the past two weeks.
Go ahead and pencil in another stellar offensive performance for the Niners. We're still taking the under. Their defense is built to shut down the way that the Falcons play. Atlanta doesn't have a lot of variety to begin with, and Mariota is only completing 57 percent of his passes. This could be a game that ends 27-10 in the Niners' favor, as far as we're concerned. And if that doesn't do it for you, perhaps you'll feel good knowing the under has hit in four of the Falcons' five games so far.
OSB Prediction: Under 43.5 (-110)
