2018 Major League Soccer Playoffs

2018 Major League Soccer Playoffs
The MLS' regular schedule may have ended, but the season is far from over. The playoffs are set to kick off on October 31 and the quest to crown a champion will take us into December. Everything begins with the knockout round, and the bracket unfolds from there. We've got odds and analysis for each of those matches, along with lines for who has the best chance of winning this year's MLS cup.

Although there is plenty of time for you to place a bet on which surviving teams will win the 2018 MLS Cup, time is running short on your ability to profit off the knockout stage of the playoffs. We’re here to help you fix that. Our MLS postseason breakdown includes:

  • Complete MLS betting odds
  • Lines for every knockout-round game
  • Odds for every team to win the MLS cup
  • Predictions
  • More!

Please note that all included lines come courtesy of Bovada and are accurate as of Monday, October 29. Make sure to double-check these odds before placing a wager, particularly if you’re submitting one after the start of the knockout stage.

Knockout Round Odds

3. New York City FC (-128) vs. 6. Philadelphia Union (+306)

Odds of a Draw: +280

Though the Philadelphia Union have one of the league’s top setup men in Borek Dockal, they don’t look like they’ll have the overall offense to take down New York City.

Pick: New York City FC (-128)

4. FC Dallas (-129) vs. 5. Portland Timbers (+333)

Odds of a Draw: +275

An upset shouldn’t be out of the question here. Neither FC Dallas’ nor the Portland Timbers’ offense is particularly robust. But we have to roll with the overall favorite, because they have goalkeeper Maximiliano Urruti. Despite a shoddy backline, he finished third in total saves during the regular season. In what should be a low-scoring slugfest, Dallas has the ultimate edge.

Pick: FC Dallas (-129)

4. D.C. United (-110) vs. 5. Columbus Crew (+232)

Odds of a Draw: +242

Even as a favorite, D.C. United seems to be more than a tad underrated here. Yes, the four-five matchups are always supposed to be close. But the Columbus Crew simply don’t have the offense to hang with D.C.’s attack. The unheralded five-seed finished third to last in goals scored during the regular season and showed little signs of improvement entering the playoffs.

Pick: D.C. United (-110)

3. Los Angeles FC (-189) vs. 6. Real Salt Lake (+462)

Odds of Draw: +362

Let’s make this real simple: The Los Angeles FC tallied 15 more goals during the regular season than Real Salt Lake while playing the same number of games. This decision isn’t the least bit difficult

Pick: Los Angeles FC (-189)

MLS Cup Odds

Here are the odds for every remaining MLS team to win this year’s championship. Remember to double-check the lines as teams are eliminated during the knockout rounds, semifinals and conference finals. We’ve ranked every team in order of descending chances. Potential ties have been broken by deciding which squad is better overall according to their regular-season stats and performance.

  1. Atlanta United (+333)
  2. New York Red Bulls (+333)
  3. Los Angeles FC (+1000)
  4. Sporting Kansas City (+1000)
  5. FC Dallas (+1200)
  6. New York City FC (+1200)
  7. Seattle Sounders (+1400)
  8. D.C. United (+1600)
  9. Portland Timbers (+1600)
  10. Philadelphia Union (+2000)
  11. Real Salt Lake (+2500)
  12. Columbus Crew (+2500)

Best Dark Horse Pick: New York City FC (+1200)

Indeed, the offense for New York City FC can be overwhelming. But they’re ferocious around the posts. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if they went on a Cinderella run.

Best Favorite Pick: Atlanta United (+333)

It’s often a cliche to go with the top ranked team entering the start of the playoffs. This isn’t one of those times. Atlanta is legitimately terrifying. They boast one of the most potent offenses in recent memory. They get up a ton of shots on goal, and Jose Martinez’s accuracy puts unparalleled pressure on opposing goalkeepers. There’s always a path toward upsets in MLS, but Atlant is by far this bracket’s strongest unit.
