NFL Divisional Playoffs 2019: Odds and Predictions for Every Game
Well, that was a wacky Wild Card Weekend in the NFL. The Eagles beat the Bears, the Chargers edged out the Ravens, the Cowboys snuck past the Seahawks and the Colts throttled the Texans. And now, after all that, the Divisional Playoff Round is set, and we've got all the latest odds, analysis and picks to help you make some money in advance of the conference championships.

The NFL playoffs are heating up on the heels of Wild Card Weekend. Just eight teams remain in the hunt for the Super Bowl, and all of them will be in action this upcoming weekend. Our preview of the festivities includes:

Divisional Round Saturday

Kansas City Chiefs (-5.5) vs. Indianapolis Colts (+5.5)

Where: Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri

Time: 4:35 p.m. ET

No one quite saw the Colts coming during their Wild Card victory over the Texans. Sure, some had them getting the victory. But they took down Houston 21-7. They weren’t supposed to win by that much. There were questions about whether their defense would hold up, and about how they’d fare against the Texans’ own top-five D.

Playing the Chiefs represents a different kind of test. Advanced metrics continue to treat them as the absolute or second-best team in the NFL, and it isn’t hard to see why.

Though their defense gives up nearly 25 points per game, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, an MVP favorite, is piloting the league’s best offense. Some of their best performances have come on the road, but they’re averaging over 32 points at home, where they’re also beating opponents by an average of more than two touchdowns.

Prediction: Kansas City Chiefs (-5.5)


Los Angeles Rams (-6.5) vs. Dallas Cowboys (+6.5)

Where: LA Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California

Time: 8:15 p.m. ET

The Dallas Cowboys were another unpleasant surprise for bettors during Wild Card Weekend. They held off the Seahawks, 24-22, in a game that was deemed basically a pick ‘em play.

Keeping their heads above water against the Rams is going to be more difficult. Los Angeles’ defense has shown more cracks this season than last, but their offense continues to fire on every cylinder.

Running back Todd Gurley headlines what could be the best ground attack in the NFL. Quarterback Jared Goff, meanwhile, is making more effective and complicated reads when dropping back. The Rams are now third in the average of net yards obtained per passing attempt, and they’re comfortably inside the top 10 of touchdowns scored both through the air and on the ground.

Prediction: Los Angeles Rams (-6.5)


Divisional Round Sunday

New England Patriots (-5) vs. Los Angeles Chargers (+5)

Where: Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts

Time: 1:05 p.m. ET

Plenty of people are saying the Patriots have lost a step or two—or more. They’re not wrong. It starts with quarterback Tom Brady. At 41, he isn’t equipped to make the super deep reads anymore. The Patriots rely on calculated mid-yardage gains coupled with speed to get them by. They’re sixth in net yards per passing attempt, but they’re more dependent on yards after the catch than they have been in years past.

Complicated still, the Chargers are good. Like, really good. Led by quarterback Philip Rivers, they finished the regular season sixth in points scored per game and eighth in points allowed. 

New England should still win this matchup. They are 8-0 at home this year, where they’re outscoring opponents by an average of 16.3 points. At the same time, with the kind of football Los Angeles is playing, a five-point spread feels a little too steep for the Patriots to cover.

Prediction: Los Angeles Chargers (+5)


New Orleans Saints (-9) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (+9)

Where: LA Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California

Time: 8:15 p.m. ET

Major props to the reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles for pulling off the come-from-behind victory over the Bears. Backup quarterback Nick Foles continues to impress in Carson Wentz’s absence, and their defense appears to have found a groove over the past couple of weeks.

But let’s not overcomplicate this. The Eagles are at a talent deficit—a much larger one than they were at against Chicago. Even if the defense returns to its Super Bowl roots, Saints quarterback Drew Brees has all the necessary weapons around him to pick them apart. 

With that said, New Orleans is far from a blowout factory. They’ve won just one of their past five games by more than three points, and while they maintain the tools to pull away, Philly’s defense is proving they deserve some credit for being able to keep things close.

Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles (+9)
