Seattle Seahawks Odds To Win The Super Bowl 2018

Seattle Seahawks Odds To Win The Super Bowl 2018
The defending NFC West champion Seattle are among the early favorites to win the Super Bowl. With the addition of running back Eddie Lacy, can Seattle get the job done in 2018? We break down the odds and give you our prediction.

Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl Odds

Eddie Lacy has a lot to prove. After two monster seasons to kick off his career with the Green Bay Packers, Lacy fell off the face of the earth, eventually becoming a non-factor in the backfield. Lacy will get a fresh start with a new NFC team — the Seattle Seahawks — when the 2017 National Football League regular season gets underway next month.

Will the addition of Lacy be enough to get the Seahawks back to the Super Bowl?

Sportsbooks have Seattle among the early favorites to win the championship in 2018 — a likely scenario considering the Seahawks still boast one of, if not the best, defensive units in the entire league. Bovada has the Seahawks as +1400 favorites to win the NFL title outright.

Let’s break down Seattle’s upcoming season and look at their chances of coming out on top.

Offense on the Rise

Putting up points became an issue for the Seahawks last season as the club finished 18th overall in that department. The Seahawks scored 354 points and relied far too much on their world-class defense to win games in 2016 — some of which were low-scoring affairs.

The addition of Lacy, who has posted two seasons with 1,000 or more rushing yards, will give Seattle an added weapon if the backfield depending on whether or not he once dominant running back can return to form. Lacy has been criticized for his conditioning in the past but he arrived to training camp in the best shape he’s been in since his rookie season in Green Bay.

There will also be less pressure on Lacy to put up monster numbers much like he was asked to do with the Packers. That’s because Thomas Rawls is also in the fold for the Seahawks, who finished first in the NFC West Division last season. Rawls is a strong complimentary RB behind Lacy as the two will look to make the Seahawks a tough team to stop on the ground.

Russell Wilson had a fine 2016 campaign, finishing 10th overall in passing yards and a QB rating of 92.6. However, the Super Bowl champion quarterback will need a boost in touchdown passes after throwing just 21 a season ago — ranking 17th overall behind QBs such as Blake Bortles and Kirk Cousins. While Wilson has lacked having elite wide receivers, he has two solid ones in Jermaine Kearse and Doug Baldwin. Add Pro Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham to the mix and the Seahawks are once again well positioned in the passing game.

The real X-factor will be Seattle’s offensive line. While Wilson certainly has the weapons at his disposal, can the O-line give the star quarterback enough time in the pocket to work his magic? The Seahawks gave up 42 sacks last season — the most allowed by a playoff team.

Defense still Dominant

The Seahawks may have some questions on the offensive side of the ball, but the club’s defense has been nothing but spectacular over the last few seasons.

Seattle held opponents to 5,099 yards against in 2016 — fifth overall in the NFL. The Seahawks allowed on average 318.7 yards and 18.6 points against per game. One important piece to Seattle’s defense continues to be linebacker Bobby Wagner, who led the NFL in tackles (167) in 2016. Wagner will be called upon to turn in the same performance for the Seahawks, who open the 2017 regular season on Sept. 10.

The Seahawks had 42 total sacks last season, which was tied for third in the league behind the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers.

Seahawks 2017-18 Outlook

After finishing with a 10-5-1 record last season, the Seahawks will be looking to top the NFC West Division once again. It should be a rather easy path to the Super Bowl, should the Seahawks get to that point.

Seattle opens the season on Sept. 10 against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field — never an easy place to play, especially in the first game of the year.

However, Seattle will enjoy a favorable schedule from there, with meetings against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2 and the Tennessee Titans in Week 3.

Seattle has matchups against the Los Angeles Rams twice, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars in what is a very light schedule.

BetOnline has set Seattle’s projected win total at 10.5 — a mark the club should easily surpass based on their schedule for 2017. Taking the over will pay -125, while putting your money on the under pays +105.
