UFC 247 Betting Breakdown

Jon Jones (-450) vs. Dominick Reyes (+325)

Jon Jones has not lost in the octagon since—wait for it—2009. That’s the only “L” on his record, and many don’t think he should have even gotten it.

Anyway, Jones might be the most well-rounded fighter in UFC. He capitalizes on his ridiculous wingspan and can beat opponents both as a grappler and a vertical fighter.

We need to give Dominick Reyes some respect. He comes in undefeated and is super athletic. Still, he doesn’t have the skill of Jones. These landslide odds feel warranted.

OSB Pick: Jon Jones (-450)

Valentina Shevchenko (-1400) vs. Katlyn Chookagian (+750)

The odds tell the entire story here. Valentina Shevchenko has been tearing it up since dropping down to the flyweight division, posting a 4-0 record in most fights that weren’t close.

Katlyn Chookagian deserves our attention for her stamina alone. If this fight goes to decision, she could theoretically pull off the upset. That said, we’re not expecting this matchup to get that far.

OSB Pick: Valentina Shevchenko (-1400).

Juan Adams (-230) vs. Justin Tafa (+180)

Oddsmakers are naturally drawn to Juan Adams. He began his time as a pro rattling off five consecutive knockouts. He packs insane power when he’s on the offensive.

And yet, Adams is on a two-match losing streak, and Justin Tafa, packs, even more, more power—particularly behind his kicks. We like the odds of an upset.

OSB Pick: Justin Tafa.

Mirsad Bektic (-145) vs. Dan Ige (+115)

The matchup here isn’t great for Mirsad Bektic, who’s coming off a loss in his last fight. He’s extremely aggressive early in head-to-heads but expends so much of his energy while taking so many risks. He’s susceptible to both decision losses and knockouts.

Dan Ige, meanwhile, does his best work on defense. He baits opponents into being aggressive as an attempt to grind out openings for accurate punches and kicks. He may prove to be Bektic’s kryptonite.

OSB Pick: Dan Ige (+115).

Derrick Lewis (-280) vs. Ilir Latifi (+220)

Taking Derrick Lewis here poses a little bit of a risk. He lost his two previous fights before his split-decision victory over Blagboy Ivanov this past fall. He hasn’t picked up an outright win in quite some time.

That won’t deter us. Ilir Latifi is a conservative fighter making his heavyweight class debut. Going up against Lewis’ power isn’t a recipe for success.

OSB Pick: Derrick Lewis (-280).
