2019 Wimbledon Final Betting Breakdown

We’re going to single out our two favorite options in each bracket and then close with a prediction by choosing between the pair. Let’s get to it!

Top Men’s Contenders

Novak Djokovic

It comes as no surprise that Novak Djokovic is an attractive option. He is, after all, the odds-on favorite and the No. 1 ranked tennis player in the world.

Djokovic is fighting to make his sixth Wimbledon Final appearance. Of the five championship cameos he has already made, he’s won four of them. He now seems poised to get that fifth title.

Something’s just different about him this year. Even during last summer’s Wimbledon victory, he didn’t seem this keyed in. He absolutely crushed David Goffin in the quarterfinals, losing only a total of six games while making minimal unforced errors. So long as he’s playing at his peak, he remains the smart money bet.

Roger Federer (+400)

Roger Federer isn’t generating a ton of love in this discussion. His semifinal showdown with Rafael Nadal naturally has people worried. Federer is going on 38 years old and has battled various injuries over the past few seasons.

Still, Wimbledon is effectively Federer’s house. He has eight titles to his name, and equally important, he’s not prepping for a clay-court matchup with Nadal. Grass courts are his turf.

So while Nadal has a lifetime 24-15 edge in their individual matchups, including an absolute trouncing of Federer last month at the French Open, this next battle feels like the latter’s to lose.

And if Federer reaches the Final, watch out. He has already lost to Djokovic twice in the championship round, but his overall track record speaks for itself. With the tennis he’s been playing lately, Federer is more than capable of pulling off the upset.

Men’s Final Prediction

Let’s go ahead and step out on a limb, shall we?

Picking Djokovic is tempting. He’s the best in the world right now. But there is a magical feel to the run Federer is currently on. Before his loss to Nadal last month, he had beaten him in five consecutive meetups.

Nadal is Djokovic. We get it. And Federer has almost always struggled against Djokovic. But he’s as healthy as he’s been in a while. This seems like a good time to work the underdog

BABB Prediction: Roger Federer (+400)

Top Women’s Contenders

Serena Williams (-105)

No one will be taken aback by Serena Williams’ appearance. She is the most dominant tennis player of all time and perhaps the most dominant athlete across every professional sport.

Indeed, her quarterfinals victory over Alison Riske wasn’t easy. But the tight score was ultimately misleading. Williams absolutely took over in the third and final set, tallying service aces and monster winners galore.

Williams will have her hands full if she ends up facing Simona Halep in the final. She cannot afford to make a bunch of unforced errors in earlier sets and then expect to prevail. It is also worth noting that she is a decade Halep’s senior.

This doesn’t matter in the end. Williams has seven Wimbledon titles to her name, and with the way she played in that third set against Riske, it is entirely possible she waltzes her way to an eighth.

Simona Halep (+190)

Halep is another natural champion pick in the women’s bracket. This is the first time she’s cracked the Wimbledon semifinals in five years, and she enters as the highest ranked player in the world still remaining (No. 7).

Recent close calls worry us a little bit. It took her a while to down the unseeded Zhang Shuai in the first set of the quarterfinals. But Halep rebounded in the end to defeat her in straight sets; she didn’t even give Shuai a puncher’s chance in the second set, dispatching her in seven total games.

Women’s Final Prediction

It is Serena Williams all the way for us. Halep deserves consideration, but she’s relatively new to this stage. Though she has cracked the semifinals before, she has never been to the championship round in her career.

That benefits Williams a great deal in a potential Wimbledon Final showdown. Her No. 10 world ranking is lower than we’ve been used to in years past, but the experience and past success she’s had at Wimbledon matters.

Shoot, if we’re being honest, we don’t even fully trust Halep to make it out of the semifinals in her matchup with Elina Svitolina. That makes this pick an easy one.

BABB Prediction: Serena Williams (-105)
