Semifinal Game Odds

Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Everything about the CFL playoffs starts with the semifinals matchups. This year’s bracket has what should be two doozies for you.

East: British Columbia vs. Hamilton

Hamilton needs to be the favorite to win this game. They have a winning percentage north of 60 when hosting a postseason contest at home. British Columbia, meanwhile, enters with a playoff road winning percentage south of 33.

Also noteworthy: BC is a fringe postseason squad at best. Their point differential during the regular season finished comfortably in the negatives (minus-33).

The Pick: Hamilton

West: Winnipeg vs. Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan is an interesting underdog pick here. No matter what the odds say, many will be going the other way. But while Winnipeg shut them out, 32-0, in their final matchup of the regular season, the roughriders actually took both of the first two games in this head-to-head sparring.

On top of that, Saskatchewan has a much better record this season when facing off against fellow teams in the West division. Winnipeg, on the other hand, finished 4-5 in their nine tilts against West squads—though they did have positive point differential in these contests, and overall they finished the season on a five-game tear.

Still, Saskatchewan has the more well-rounded roster, and its defense has generally stepped up big time against division opponents.

The Pick: Saskatchewan

2018 Grey Cup Odds

Saskatchewan Roughriders

Here are the Grey Cup odds for all six remaining teams, presented in order of decreasing appeal. Remember to adjust the scope of your betting as the Semifinal and Division Finals unfold. The outcomes to those games not only impact the pool of surviving teams, but they force changes to these lines.

  • Calgary Stampeders (+150)
  • Saskatchewan Roughriders (+250)
  • Ottawa Redblacks (+600)
  • Winnipeg Blue Bombers (+700)
  • Hamilton Tiger-Cats (+750)
  • B.C. Lions (+750)

Prediction The Grey Cup Winner

Calgary Stampeders

Can we really go with anyone other than the Calgary Stampeders? Of course not.

Whatever you think of their offense, the Stampeders are dominant. They went 12-5 during the regular season, through which they allowed under 21 points per game. Have faith in them.

If you’re looking for a dark-horse option, we (weirdly) recommend the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. This is weird to write after picking them to lose against Saskatchewan, but the Blue Bombers’ offense is so good and they’re working on a five-game winning streak. Momentum is a thing, so if you’re in the market for the high-risk, high-reward pick, they’re absolutely it.
