MLB 2012 AL East: New York Yankees Starting To Pull Away

Bronx Bombers Continue to Mash in American League East

We are sitting pretty with our American League East horse as the New York Yankees are the born again Bronx Bombers. Battling the Texas Rangers for the top spot overall in the American League, the Yankees have crushed a Major League leading 118 home runs through their first 75 games of the season.

AL East divisional foes, Toronto (111) the AL West leading Rangers (98) and the surprising, but somewhat fading, Baltimore Orioles (96) are the next closest clubs to the Manhattan Mashers. All that fence crashing has led the Yankees to the top of the American League East as they have a five game lead in the division.

Baltimore Orioles Have Been Surprising Good – Can They Stay in the Mix?

After they led the American League East for most of April, then hung tough in May, the Baltimore Orioles have stumbled a bit going 3-7 in their last ten games. The O’s were a game out of first back on June 1 at 29-23. As of today the Birds are 41-34 but, because Yankees have been white hot, they are five games out of first.

Boston Red Sox Struggling Start Puts Them Behind the Eight Ball

After a 27-25 start – the Boston Red Sox were tied for last in the AL East. The good news was no one else had hit their stride yet either and they were just three games out of first. Boston has picked it up some going 7-3 in their last ten, but they have only improved to four games over .500 with a 40-36 record and sit 6.5 back.

Tampa Bay Rays & Blue Jays Battle to Stay Out of AL East Basement

Early on in the season, both the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays were battling for the AL East lead. Tampa Bay actually lead the division with a 30-22 record heading into June. The Blue Jays, while tied for last with Boston, were only three games back with 27-25 record. Tampa has gone 10-14 in June to fall 6.5 games back of the Yankees, while the Blue Jays have been decimated by injuries and are now 8.5 games out of first.

Tampa Bay may recover to gain a wild card playoff berth – the Blue Jays and Red Sox won’t. We also don’t feel very good about the Orioles maintaining their first half pace. The top rated online sportsbooks here at are offering loads of MLB Championship odds – back the Bronx Bombers to win the AL East!
