MLB American League East Wagering Odds Baltimore vs. Houston

Orioles pitcher Bud Norris: Familiar friend faces new foe

After being drafted in the sixth round back in 2006, and starting 118 games for the Houston Astros, RHP Bud Norris was traded to Baltimore yesterday. Held out of his scheduled Tuesday start, Norris (6-9 ERA 3.93) who was basically the ace of the Astros pitching staff, will face his former team tonight. It must be nice going from a pretender to a contender as the Orioles are 5.5 games out in the AL East and just a half game out of the American League Wild Card race. Norris, who should pad his strikeout total in this contest, will also get some support from the Baltimore bats as the Orioles .265 team batting average is the fourth best in the Majors.

Houston: So far back in the MLB playoff race the ‘Stros think they’re in first

We have talked about the rough welcome the Astros have received during their first season in the American League in previous posts. Well, the ride hasn’t gotten any easier as Houston sits with a 36-70 record and they are 26 games out of the AL West playoff race. Offense continues to be a problem in Houston as the Astros .236 team batting average is the second worst in MLB – just ahead of the .231 posted by Miami. The Stro’s will be the first team to eclipse the 1,000 strikeout mark as they currently sit with 995 punch-outs. Houston RHP Jordan Lyles (4-4 ERA 4.29) heads to the hill for the Astros and will face a bunch of very angry Birds!
