MLB National League East Second Half Baseball Betting Options

Washington Nationals – New York Mets NL East Leaders

After  beginning the season as +500 longshots to win the National League East, the Washington Nationals (45-32) are leading the division – and have the best winning percentage (.584) on the senior circuit. It’s all about pitching in the Nation’s Capital as the Nats lead the Majors with a 3.19 earned run average. If they can improve on their middle of the road .248 team batting average (20 OA) the Nationals will be tough to beat.

Even more shocking is the fact that the New York Mets are currently sitting in second overall in the NL East. The Metropolitans are just three games out of first as they have a posted a 43-36 record in the first half. New York has enjoyed early season success with a nice mix of hitting (.258 BA 13 OA) and pitching (3.88 ERA 12 OA). This is rare air for the Mets as they have finished fourth in the NL East the last three seasons.

Preseason Favorite Philadelphia Frolicking in MLB NL East Basement

With -150 preseason wagering line, not to mention a perceived stud pitching staff, the Philadelphia Phillies were the runaway favorites in the NL East. Fast forward to the half point and we find the Phillies pitching staff is 22nd overall with a whopping 4.14 team ERA. Stud pitchers Cliff Lee (0-5)  4.13 ERA and Roy Halladay (4-5) 3.89 ERA have not supported the Phillies bats that are seventh with a .264 batting average.

Atlanta is hanging around as the Braves sit in third with a 41-37 record and are 4.5 games back of the Nationals. After posting a torrid 21-8 record in May, the Miami Marlins went  8-18 in June to sit with a 37-40 overall record and they are 7.5 games back. If pitching wins Championships the Nationals, at +400 to win the NLCS and +800 to capture the World Series at, look like a good bet in the MLB second half.
