NFL Picks ATS Week 3
Atlanta Falcons (-160) vs. Detroit Lions (+140)
Is anyone taking the Detroit Lions seriously yet?
The Lions went into New York and upset the Giants at MetLife Stadium. The task will be even tougher for Matthew Stafford and the Lions, who host the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3. The Super Bowl finalist Falcons — also 2-2 to start the season — head to Detroit as three-point favorites.
The last three meetings between the Falcons and Lions have been fairly close, with Atlanta holding the edge with two wins and one loss. The Lions were also 0-3 against the spread in those games, but if there was any time to bet on Detroit, now is the time. In their last three contests, the Lions have put up on average 390 total yards of offense, compared to Atlanta’s 321. It’s been three years since these two NFC rivals clashed — a 22-21 victory by Detroit.
Look for another big day from Stafford, who has leads the NFL with 6 touchdown passes through two games. This will be a high-scoring affair with the Lions possibly hitting the 3-0 mark to kick off the 2017 NFL campaign. Take the Lions against the spread in what is going to be another entertaining match against the Falcons.
Pick: Detroit Lions (+3)
Tennessee Titans (-135) vs. Seattle Seahawks (+115)
It wasn’t the most impressive win for the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 after edging division rivals San Francisco 49ers to grab their first victory of the NFL season.
Seattle returns to the field Sunday as appealing underdogs on the road against the Tennessee Titans — a team they’ve handled quite easily over the last six meetings. The Titans enter their home match as three-point favorites against the Seahawks.
The biggest issue for the Seahawks once again has been putting points on the scoreboard, netting just 21 through the opening two games.
While the Titans have been able to score at ease, they have yet to face a world-class defense like the Seahawks have. In the last six contests between the Titans and Seahawks, Seattle has walked away with five victories. Expect that trend to continue on Sunday.
Pick: Seattle Seahawks (+3)
New England Patriots (-1200) vs. Houston Texans (+700)
What has happened to the world-class defense of the Houston Texans? Two games into the NFL season and the Texans have a point differential of -18, partly because they have allowed 38 during that span. The road doesn’t get easier for the Texans, who have a date with the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots on Sunday at Gillette Stadium (Foxborough, Mass).
The Patriots head into their home match as 14-point favorites against the Texans, who have never won or covered in New England. These clubs have clashed five times in New England since the Texans entered the league in 2002 and Houston has gone 0-5 against the spread each time. Don’t expect the Texans to pull off an upset victory this time around, but they will keep the game close and cover the +14 points, even against Tom Brady and the Pats.
Pick: Houston Texans (+14)
Dallas Cowboys (-165) vs. Arizona Cardinals (+145)
This contest will pit two of the game’s best running backs with Ezekiel Elliott carrying the ball for the Cowboys and David Johnson in the backfield for the Cardinals. The Cowboys enter the matchup as 3.5-point favorites against the ailing Cardinals.
Head-to-head, these teams have matched up evenly in the past, as the Cardinals hold a 6-4 record against Dallas over the last 10 games. The last time the two NFC rivals met, Arizona walked away with a 28-17 victory during the 2014 season. Neither team has been impressive defensively as both the Cardinals and Cowboys have -9 point differentials. Expect a close match with the Cardinals covering ATS and maybe even stealing the victory in Texas.
Pick: Arizona Cardinals (+3.5)
