Pirates and Cardinals Open Key Series in St. Louis as Central Race Tightens

Cardinals aiming for sole possession of first

With a win, and a Brewers loss, the Cardinals would retain sole possession of first place in the NL Central standings. St. Louis will ask Lynn, who is looking for his 15th win of the season, to continue his strong campaign. He has just eight losses and an impressive ERA of 2.79 coming into tonight. This is the second straight start for Lynn against Pittsburgh. He recorded a no-decision after allowing two runs in six innings.

Pirates can taste the top of the standings

Pittsburgh is just two games out of first place in the NL Central, which has come down to a three-team race in the final month of the season. Pittsburgh will counter with righty Gerrit Cole, who is 7-4 with an ERA of 3.65. Pittsburgh has struggled on the road this season, playing to a record of 27-37, so this series could be a tough one for them. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games played overall coming into today.

As the final month of the season gets underway, we will visit the online sportsbook found at to place our bet for the Pirates and Cardinals from St. Louis. We will drop 10 percent of our bankroll on the host Cardinals and the -116 money line as they take the all-important series opener from Pittsburgh.
