Run for the Roses Champion Orb boasts top favorite status
After a solid 2 ½ length Kentucky Derby victory, the topbet.eu sportsbook has Orb a clear favorite to win the Preakness Stakes with a -120 betting line. Although he skipped the Derby, newcomer Departing most recently won the Illinois Derby and is second choice at +400, followed by speed-burner Goldencents (a disappointing 17th in the Derby) at +700, and Mylute (5th in the Derby) at +800. It’s expected that Goldencents will contend for the early lead and try to hold off a fast-closing Orb in the stretch. We see GS fading late in the race again.
New Shooters come with long-shot odds to capture the Preakness Stakes
Besides Departing, Governor Charlie (+2000) and Titletown Five (+3000) enter the Triple Crown fray, while Will Take Charge gets a jockey switch from the Derby to wily veteran Mike Smith and at +1400 could stage an upset – providing he can stay out of traffic trouble. Given his recent form however, we see Orb rising to the challenge and sweeping past the field, as they reach the top of the stretch, to hit the Preakness wire first. With the Triple Crown second leg secured, Orb will be chased home by Will Take Charge, Mylute and Departing.
