This will be the second season for the Red Wings in the Eastern Conference following the league’s realignment prior to last season. Detroit made the playoffs last season, but fell in the first round to the Boston Bruins. It took Detroit some time to get adjusted to the Eastern Conference, but they were able to play well enough late in the season to move into a playoff spot.

The Rangers are somewhat happy with the start to the new season. Despite having a 1-1-2 record in their last four games, the Rangers feel like they have played some good hockey. New York is out to defend its Eastern Conference crown this year after falling to the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Finals last season. The Rangers are dealing with quite a few injuries to key players. Ryan McDonagh has a separated shoulder and Kevin Klein is dealing with a foot injury. John Moore is out due to a suspension.
