Who’s Got The Power?: Online Sports Betting’s Weekly MLB Power Rankings (July 2 Edition)

Who’s Got The Power?: Online Sports Betting’s Weekly MLB Power Rankings (July 2 Edition)
The hunt for the World Series is in full swing and some clubs possess more might than others. (Sorry, Brewers fans.) Each Thursday we look at Major League Baseball's most fearsome squads in our Weekly MLB Power Rankings.

We’ve entered July and it’s pretty clear that some Major League Baseball clubs look amazing and others look, um, Phillies-y. Each week we step up to the plate and offer up our MLB Power Rankings. If your team’s in the Top 5, you might want to consider taking some time off in October. If it’s not, shake the 8 Ball again and check back with us in a week.

5. Kansas City Royals

Odds To Win The World Series: 8/1

Getting swept in Houston did no favours for Kansas City’s self-esteem, but if you’re gonna get swept by somebody in the American League…

4. Pittsburgh Pirates

Odds To Win The World Series: 14/1

The Cards are running away with NL Central, but that doesn’t mean Pittsburgh can’t boast having one of the best clubs in baseball today. Opponents can’t seem to collect Rs off of the Pirates and stars like Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte are ready to bend the scoreboard to their will. By the way, the Bucs can boast having the pitcher with the MLB’s most wins (Gerrit Cole) and the pitcher with the most saves (Mark Melancon) on the same ball club.

3. Washington Nationals

Odds To Win The World Series: 7/1

The Nats have had a bit of a shaky week with Ls courtesy of Philly and Atlanta, but you can’t expect Washington to win every showdown with an NL East rival. Outside of Bryce Harper’s baseball messiahdom, the Nationals have been a bit middle-of-the-pack when it comes to offensive production and will need a better contact approach to shake off the playoff pretender tag. Mind you, when you have Max Scherzer in the rotation there are days where robust run support isn’t a huge priority.

2. Houston Astros

Odds To Win The World Series: 14/1

The Astros appear to be back on track and that’s frightening news for the entire American League. Houston swept AL Central toppers Kansas City and enjoyed a healthy 4 run (or more) cushion in every victory. What team wants to go up against Jose Altuve, Evan Gattis and Dallas Keuchel in a multi-game set? We’ve come a long way from 2013’s 51-111 showing.

1. St. Louis Cardinals

Odds To Win The World Series: 7/1

It’s become incredibly hard to unglue the Cards from this spot in our Power Rankings. St. Louis, currently on a tidy 7-3 run in their last ten games, has the best record in all of baseball thanks to a tremendous pitching staff that leads the Majors in quality starts and rock-bottom ERA. (Young starters like Michael Wacha and Carlos Martinez will be giving opposing batters nightmares for years to come.) It’s a simple system: The Cards get on base, they score and they prevent your club from doing the same thing.
