PGA Tour Set For Golf’s Toughest Test At The Olympic Club

Hopes of winning this prestigious event hinge on having the ability to hit the ball straight off the tee, being sneaky long – while avoiding the heavy rough, and successfully navigating the lightning fast greens at the historic Olympic Club that overlooks the mighty Pacific Ocean. Accurate shot making wins this Major!

Spraying the ball around this course over the first two days will mean that you get to watch the final two days from the clubhouse as the fairways end where the rough begins on this Par 70 course. The tournament cuts down to the top 60 golfers (and ties) after the first 36 holes of play as we head into the weekend action.

A star studded field hits the Lake Course at The Olympic Club this weekend to battle for the $8 million up for grabs in the 112th edition of the U.S. Open Golf Championship. The big hitters, including top favorites Eldrick Woods, Lee Westwood and Luke Donald, along with 2011 U.S. Open Champ Rory McIlroy and 2012 Masters Champion Bubba Watson, are contending for the second major of the 2012 PGA Tour season.

Largely unheralded Graeme McDowell in 2010, along with fellow Irishman Rory McIlroy in 2011, have taken the U.S. Open trophy across the pond over the past two years. Those wins were preceded by victories by Americans Lucas Glover in 2009 and Woods in 2008. Ten former Champions are in this years field including two time South African Champion Ernie Els who is making his 20th consecutive start in the U.S. Open.

We mentioned in the opening that plenty of underdogs have gone on to win this event. Pro golf is one of the toughest sports to handicap and one often needs to look past the favorites to cash a winning bet. Some of the underdogs we suggest looking at include Matt Kucher (33/1), Hunter Mahan (40/1) and Louis Oosthuizen at (50/1). Good Luck and enjoy the U.S. Open Golf Championship from The Olympic Club in San Francisco!
