Andy Murray vs Milos Raonic Analysis & Preview

By Matt Pitt

Milos Raonic (+300) vs. Andy Murray (-333)

Everyone was looking forward to a Wimbledon 2016 final between Andy Murray and Roger Federer, but Milos Raonic spoiled the party by beating Federer in the semi-final stage.

Raonic won the first set against Federer 6-3 before losing the next two sets 6-7 and 4-6 to be one set away from elimination. However, the 25-year old Canadian won the next set 7-5 then the decider 6-3 to reach his first Wimbledon final.

Ranked seventh in the world, Raonic is priced at +300 to win what would be his ninth career title, and his first-ever Grand Slam title.

Raonic’s best for of attack is his powerful server; they do not call him “Missile” for nothing. The Canadian has a stronger forehand stroke than backhand, and he tends to attempt to dictate play by playing aggressively.

Bookmakers are aware of Raonic’s superb serve and have priced Raonic having the most aces in the match at -1000.

Andy Murray showed what he is capable of when he beat Tomas Berdych in straight sets 6-3 6-3 6-3 in his semi-final match, only a couple of days after being taken to five sets in the quarter-final by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Priced at -333 to win Wimbledon 2016, Murray is a short-priced favorite, and should live up to the hype and win what will be his second Wimbledon title, the first of which coming in 2013.

Murray is a superb all-round player, one who puts an emphasis on defensive baseline play. Expect Murray to make Raonic work the full width of the court as Raonic is not the most mobile tennis player in the world.

Raonic and Murray have met on nine previous occasions, with Roanic winning three of those to Murray’s six victories.

Most of the past encounters have been on hard court, but they last met in the Queen’s, which was on grass, and Murray won 6-7 6-4 6-3 to win his first Queen’s title; can Raonic get revenge?

The majority of the money on the set betting market is going on Murray to win 3-0 at odds of +150 although the only time Murray has beaten Raonic 3-0 was in the Round of 16 of the 2012 US Open. Odds of a 3-1 win for Murray look better value at +250.

Another bet to look out for is Raonic to win at least one set at -200 with betting odds of +160 available on Raonic to win with a +1 set handicap applied.

Overall, Murray should win this match and become a Wimbledon champion again. I am going for 3-1 to Murray at +250.

Pick: Andy Murray to win 3-1 at +250
