UFC 240 Betting Breakdown

Edgar Holloway (-400) vs. Frankie Edgar (+300)

It should come as no surprise that Holloway is being billed as the near-insurmountable favorite. He is effectively moving down a division after suffering a unanimous loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 236 for the interim lightweight belt.

Choppering into the featherweight division should end up making for an easier undertaking. Prior to his letdown versus Poirier, Holloway had turned in 13 straight victories. His last unanimous loss, meanwhile, was in 2013, against Conor McGregor.

Holloway's first-rate conditioning will serve him well against Edgar. He had 10 finishes during his 13-fight winning streak. What's more, his last four fights in the featherweight division have ended by way of knockout.

Edgar poses a legitimate challenge. He has experience at this level. This will mark his eighth championship fight. And while Holloway has a noticeable size advantage, Edgar is comparably efficient on his strikes and the superior grappler.

Bringing this match to the floor is Edgar's best shot at pulling off the upset. And hey: Anything's possible. But in the end, even if this fight ends up going the distance, it feels like the more powerful Holloway will pull off the decided victory.

OSB Prediction: Edgar Holloway (-400)

Cris Cyborg (-600) vs. Felicia Spencer (+400)

Don't concern yourself with Cris Cyborg's betting stock. She is indeed coming off a loss in her last fight, but that was the Brazilian native's first defeat since 2005

Perhaps there should be some concern about how she responds. She hasn't needed to respond to a defeat in nearly 15 years. And Felicia Spencer is a viable foe. She has a lifetime record of 7-0, although this will be just her second trip to the octagon.

Investing in Cyborg ultimately feels like the best call. She fights with a combination of aggression and explosion. Her strikes are both powerful and precise. Don't be surprised if she ends up winning this one by knockout.

OSB Prediction: Cris Cyborg (-600)

Geoff Neal (-280) vs. Niko Price (+220)

The bout between Geoff Neal and Niko Price may end up being the most competitive of UFC 240.

Neal is looking to pick up his sixth straight victory, and his fighting style can be problematic for opponents. He has a layer of deceleration baked into his arsenal. His strikes are extremely fast twitch, but he favors a more gradual style to his attacking approach.

This can be an issue for certain overaggressive fighters. Price feels like an exception.

Yes, he leans toward the aggressive side. But his work is quick and adaptable. If he cannot break down stamina barriers earlier, he'll adjust his style to include more methodical stratagems.

And make no mistake: He has the potential to win this thing sooner than not. It took him less than a round to dispatch Tim Means back in March.

OSB Prediction: Niko Price (+220)

Olivier Aubin-Mercier (+180) vs. Arman Tsarukyan (-230)

After winning four straight fights between 2016 and 2018, Olivier Aubin-Mercier enters UFC 240 having lost back-to-back matchups. These letdowns came against Alexander Hernandez and Gilbert Burns, and they showcased holes in Aubin-Mercier's repertoire.

The primary problem: His defense. His protective stands are awkward. He makes up for some of them with a quick-to-act grappling game, and his striking has gotten better. But that wrinkle opens him up to early-round problems when facing fighters who prefer to initiate actions.

Arman Tsarukyan isn't exactly one of those problematic matchups. As many experts have reiterated ad nauseam, he likes to hover around the outside of the octagon and figure out a way to get within kicking distance. Be on the look out for one-kick combinations that result in takedowns.

Experience might come into play here. This is just Tsarukyan's second career UFC appearance. He lost the first one to Islam Makhachev by unanimous decision.

But looking at his entire pro career, that was his first "L" since 2015. His UFC career is still so young, and his timing is so spot-on. This seems like a fight he should be able to win, even if he has to grind it out all the way to a decision.

OSB Prediction: Arman Tsarukyan (-230)

Marc Andre-Barriault (+145) vs. Krzysztof Jotko (-175)

This will be Marc Andre-Barriault's second career UFC match, and while he performed respectively during his debut, he still ended up falling to Andrew Sanchez by unanimous decision. The way he fights is conducive to those types of closely contested battles.

Andre-Barriault prefers to grind the pace down to a near-halt, wear out his opponent and exploit momentary lapses from the inside. That pusher style can be grating to aggressors and invite plenty of unforced errors.

Krzysztof Jotko isn't that impulsive to fall for Andre-Barriault's stamina-heavy approach. He likes to keep on his toes and will try to establish himself as even more of a moving target. This, too, can incite unforced errors at the hands of his opponents.

But it is extremely difficult to invest in him at this point. Though he re-entered the win column in April, he has not performed well over the past few years. He gets favorite status by way of experience. We, however, aren't buying it.

OSB Prediction: Marc Andre Barriault (+145)
