Who To Bet To Win 2022 WNBA MVP Award

The 2022 WNBA season is now in motion. It’s during this period where it’s a smart idea to bet on futures — such as who will win the MVP award. For betting advice on the 2022 MVP winner, you’ll want to read this to get our free picks!

Current WNBA betting odds for the MVP are listed below. These lines came from the most-used WNBA betting sites. While a huge array of WNBA players have a line, we’ve carefully chosen the most favored to win the 2022 MVP below:

Best Bets To Win 2022 WNBA MVP

WNBA’s talent pool has swelled to levels never seen before by the league. So much that first-round draft picks and reigning Rookies of the Year (Michaela Onyenwere) can’t even stick on rosters anymore. That’s part of the reason why odds are fairly spread out in the 2022 WNBA MVP bet.

Therefore, the best betting strategy is likely a multi-wager approach. “Spread the wealth” on three or so players to take the award and let the best women win. Really, it’s that simple. Plus, at these long odds, you can do that without completely killing all profit won (if you pick correctly). With that said, here are the three players we think are most deserving of an MVP futures bet:

Breanna Stewart

If you can only make one WNBA MVP bet, then we’d strongly vouch for Stewart. She’s the best player in the world despite finishing second and third in the MVP race each of the past two years. This award has eluded the Seattle playmaker since her first win in 2018. But we sense 2022 is Stewart’s full-circle moment.

Here’s why: we expect the Storm to be a legit championship-contending team in 2022. With Stewart and a perhaps soon-to-be-retired Sue Bird, it really feels like championship-or-bust this year. The franchise managed both’s minutes last season, but we sense that’ll be less of a thing this time around. Team success means plenty in the MVP vote and Stewart can’t just rely on individual greatness to earn a second MVP.

But it’s not like Stewart won’t have the gaudy individual performance too. Last season, the wing averaged 20.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. Offense, defense, she can really do it all on the floor. Expect her to be her usual sensational self this season — this time with more minutes and team success to show for it, which is the right mix to win MVP.

Tina Charles

For better or worse, the biggest story in the WNBA isn’t on-court — it’s off it inside a Russian prison cell where Brittney Griner is being “wrongfully detained,” according to the U.S. State Department. It’s a sad situation indeed, but because of it, there are extra eyes on Griner’s team, Phoenix. Griner — the runner-up MVP in 2021 — is a huge void to fill, but we think Tina Charles might just do it this season. If she does, that will earn her humongous MVP credibility.

Last season, Charles led the league in scoring at 23.4 points per game, but with Washington. With the Suns, she’ll be thrust into the post to occupy the space Griner dominates. It’s a tall order for the center Charles, but she’s more than capable — especially on a team that includes Diana Taurasi and Skylar Diggins-Smith, teammates of Charles on Team USA. That trio can contend with Seattle for a title, too.

Give Charles a serious look for MVP. The talent is there — and always has been — for Charles, and with the Griner drama hanging, the voting attention will also be there if she can thrive with her new team.

Elena Delle Donne

In the last full season that Delle Donne played, she won MVP (the second of her career). The problem is that was way back in 2019. She’s missed most of the prior two seasons with injuries. That makes Delle Donne an extremely risky bet here — far more than our two previous choices — but we think it’s worth taking a flyer on as a low-risk, low-reward wager.

The risk is two-folded. One, can she even stay healthy to begin with? And if so, will she be able to replicate her 2019-level production? Washington might limit her workload, which could hurt her MVP chances.

But the reward, well, it’s massive at her +1200 odds — which pays big no matter how much you risk. And Delle Donne did impress in her first WNBA game back a few days ago. She went off for 21 points and nine rebounds to lead the Mystics to a 14-point victory. Delle Donne still has a long road before returning to her MVP self, but it’s a journey worth trekking as a bettor because of the huge upside.
